  i just want to add text to a text widget. Can’t find out how to do that.

  Once you’ve put the widget in your sidebar, click on the icon on the right-hand side of it (looks like a list). That will pop up the insides of the widget for typing (it goes to the top of the page, so scroll up; if your screen goes black, it’s just that you’re below the text widget and scrolling will find it). When you’re done typing, just click the X and it should be done. Hit Save Changes of course!
