    hello,

i would like to know if there is a way to get the gazette theme EXACTLY like the demo version and start editing that (demo version) with my own text and images,

i seem to have problems getting my gazette team exactly like the demo look,

    thank you in advance

The blog I need help with is iqconnected.wordpress.com.

When you say exactly like how it’s shown on the Gazette theme demo, can you clarify what you are looking for in particular? Note that demo sites have stock photography, videos and text for what they’re meant to depict – demo usage.

When you enable Gazette theme for your WordPress.com site, you have all the ability to customize it to your needs based on the WordPress.com plan you’re on.

It can be overwhelming when you are new to blogging, but with the right choice of content, images and videos, you should be able to get a appealing visual look for your WordPress.com site.

If you can shed more light on what you are referring to when you say exactly like the demo version, I will be able to help you through this. Let me know. Thanks.

From what I see on the Gazette theme demo site, 6 posts are featured and hence the appearance of 6 blocks of images at the top. The rest of the page is organized with all posts published.

You can achieve the same on your WordPress.com site, by publishing many posts and then featuring 6 posts – which would give the appearance of 6 blocks of images at the top.

this is what i tryed to do … i made some dummy posts and made shore i had 6 …. then i tryed to featuring the 6 posts,

i got stuck at > customize > featured content > tag name?,

    #3049744

What you see in Customizer > Featured Content > Tag is the configuration of what tag name you can use to feature content on your WordPress.com site. By default, it is “featured”. This means that, all WordPress.com blog posts with this tag name will be featured on the site.

From what I can understand, you are stuck at knowing how to feature posts on your WordPress.com site? This guide can help. https://jetpack.com/support/featured-content/

Basically the first two steps on that guide are pre-done. Your job is to add tags to your posts now. Tags are similar to categories and you can learn more about categories and tags here. https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories-vs-tags/

Your job now: tag 6 posts with the tag “featured”. You will then be able to see the featured posts on your WordPress.com site with the Gazette theme.

I hope this helps. Feel free to get back if you have questions and I will be keen on helping you through it!

One of the main things I see on your site that you still need to set up is the Featured Content area at the top, so let me try to help you with that.

I can see that you’ve already added a featured tag, movies. Did you want all your featured posts to be movie-related? If not, you might try a more general tag, like featured.

The next step is to create some posts and give them that tag. I currently see only one post with the movies tag, and it’s private. Since your entire site is already private, you probably don’t need to make individual posts private as well. It’ll be easier to set up your site with posts that aren’t set to private.

Do you want to go ahead and do this, then?

    • Change all your posts to public (Until you make your whole site public, no one will be able to see them except WordPress.com staff like me, or people who you invite to your site.)
    • Add the movies (or other tag you choose) tag to five more posts. Gazette is designed to have six featured posts in a grid at the top, as you can see on the demo.
    • Add a different featured image to each of your Featured Content posts. It’s that image that will show up in the grid.

Let us know how it goes.

And if you’re stuck on anything else, just let us know as well – we’re glad to help you get your site set up as you want.

thank u both for the quik response and support, i will now add the tag featured to those 6 posts and will let you know if im set,

btw hope you dont mind keeping my page private at the moment as long as i think its not ready for others to see,

    thank you in advance

Sure, you can keep your site private for as long as you like. But let me just clarify the different types of privacy, hopefully a little more clearly.

Right now your entire site is set to private. No one can see it except you and WordPress.com staff.

But you’ve also made each individual page and post private. There’s no need to do that, since your entire site is already private.

This is what people see when they try to visit your site:

    https://cloudup.com/ch6Z4acZyRL

Everything is hidden. So there’ no need to make all your separate posts and pages private – all that does is make it harder to set up your site. :)

Just let me know if you need further help!

okay thanks for this info i will turn the private setting off from my posts,

i just dont get it with this featured thing,

i will review some help links http://arunsathiya.com/ sended me hopefully i can figure this out,

for years ive bin working with the wordpress blogs/themes and i was able to figure things out on my own without ever contacting support/forum,

it would be very helpfull if u could send me a link where they explain in a video how to feature those posts/tags in a grid of 6 with this gazette theme,

i already watched a video on youtube explaining about “following the instructions of the author – install your new theme and activate it”

getting my page/theme to look exactly like the model/look of the demo is harder then i expected

Hello Kathrynwp & Strikebuys & iqconnected,

Thank you for your help about the “gazette” theme…

I am sooo sorry, i still have some issues & difficulties to solve it… :-(

It looks like the wordpress.com theme version & the downloaded theme version are a bit different… the “featured content” field on the customiser seems only available on the .com version & not on the downloaded version…

is this correct? or am i lost somewhere?

Thank you very much for your help :-)
I wish you all a great day

I installed Gazette on a WordPress.com site and a self-hosted WordPress (WordPress.org) site. The Featured Content is available on both.

You should be using WordPress.com Customizer to see that. Go to https://wordpress.com/customize and choose the self-hosted WordPress (WordPress.org) site you are referring to. You should be able to see the Featured Content section there on the left. Use that to easily feature all posts with the “featured” tag or a tag of your choice.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have questions.

On a self-hosted site, you need to install the Jetpack plugin for Featured Content functionality.

If you need further help with the self-hosted version of Gazette, feel free to post in its forum at WordPress.org:

You’ll need a free WordPress.org account to post – if you don’t already have one, you can register here:
