A while back I purchased a new domain name (mannerofspeaking.org) and mapped it to my wordpress.com blog. No problems. I believe (but can’t remember) that I began using the new domain name before WordPress released is (excellent) share buttons.
Today, I decided to use a new domain name (manner-of-speaking.com). I mapped it to the blog, made it the primary domain name and kept mannerofspeaking.org as a subsidiary domain name. Again, no problem and a random check of links on Google confirmed the re-routing works fine.
But … I discovered that under the new .com name, all the share stats that showed up on the blog beside the Twitter, Facebook, StumbleUpon and Tweetmeme buttons were reset to zero. While not a huge problem (because the stats are preserved on my dashboard) it was an unwelcome discovery. Just to check, I went back to the .org address as my primary and all the stats in the buttons came back.
My question: Is there a way to preserve the stats next to the share buttons on the live blog pages when changing domain names, or is resetting them to zero the price of the change?
