Email address doesn't exist any more
When I wanted to create a new blog today, I remembered that I had one during school and was really surprised that it is still up. My problem is now, that I want to take it down, but the email address from back then doesn’t exists any more and I can’t remember the password after six years…
How can I take it down? Any possibilities to contact the support? Actually I searched for it, but I couldn’t find anything.
Thanks for any help!
Not to worry. We can always reach Staff as they monitor forum threads and I have flagged this thread for Staff attention.
We’ll need you to prove ownership of the account before we can take any account, and the only things that we can accept for that would be either an email from the email address the account is registered to or confirmation of the account’s API key.
The problem is that the school removes the email addresses of the students after the leave the school. What’s an API key?
The API key was sent in your welcome email.
If you no longer have that, all that I can recommend is you try to guess the password a few times. If you can’t guess it today, try again tomorrow, as you might recall it overnight.
That’s bad. Like I said, the address and all emails stored were removed. I played the guess-the-password game for half an hour today, so I don’t believe that I’ll know it tomorrow.
Can’t you deactivate the blog, inform the owner that it will be deleted after a few weeks and then delete it? I mean the owner – who is still me – won’t reply, ’cause he will never get the information. Also no one follows the blog or is interested in it.
No, we cannot take action against the blog unless instructed by the owner, and we would need proof to verify you as the owner.
So this blog will never be deleted, when I don’t guess the password I used back then?
Correct, you need to prove ownership of the blog and account before we take any action.
The phrase “the internet never forgets” gets a new meaning. I really thought, that blogs with no action for several years will be deleted, to save space and so on.
But I understand your problem that you’ve to identify the owner, yet it’s crazy that it only works via the email address.
I’ll look at my old school notes, maybe I was silly enough to wrote down the password somewhere. Nevertheless, thanks for your help.
Some hosts will delete a blog after enough no activity – if you have a regular web site and don’t pay for the hosting your site will go away.
One of the uses of a few WordPress.COM blogs has been for memorial sites for a loved one that passed away – the memorial will live on for a long time thanks to WordPress.COM –
