  Is there any way to turn off email notifications so I dont get an email every time someone I’m following posts a new blog etc?

  The blog I need help with is cometscorners.wordpress.com.

  Hey,
  the only think i found out was to unsubscribe.

  I find the last two changes to the follow a blog options horrible. I was very fortunate to be among a test feature for following blogs which was closed few month ago. How bad the options available now looks in compare to that one.

  Yes, there is. Click the Manage Delivery Settings link under Read Blogs to change your default email delivery methods for all the blogs you follow to “never”. http://en.support.wordpress.com/following/#manage-email-delivery-settings
