Embedding Facebook video

I seem to be unable to embed a Facebook video into one of my posts. The shortlink to the post is this:

I tried to follow the directions for VodPod, and I was able to upload a draft of the video to a new draft post. But I wanted to have it appear at the end of the post, just before my signature.

I tried to cut from the draft and paste in the post, but the video does not appear in the blog, although it was fine in my Windows Live Writer off-line blog writing utility.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated

The blog I need help with is alanoldstudent.wordpress.com.

You should be able, on the Draft where the video is working, to click to the HTML editor, cut out the Vodpod code, and paste it in where you want the video. Have you tried that?

Actually, I did do that, and it does not show up.

This was the code I pasted:
    <span style="display:block;width:425px;margin:0 auto;"> [vodpod id=Video.3736209&w=425&h=350&fv=] <div style="font-size:10px;"> more about &quot;<a href="http://vodpod.com/watch/3736209-1-triilon-dollars-on-wars">1 Trillion Dollars on Wars</a>&quot;, posted with <a href="http://vodpod.com?r=wp">vodpod</a> </div></span>

I’m not sure why it does not show up.

If you look at the page in FireFox, it is possible to right click the page and look at the source. I don’t know how much help that will be, and I’m at wit’s end, which is why I just put a clickable link at the end.

All you really need is [vodpod id=Video.3736209&w=425&h=350&fv=] and try posting it in the Visual editor? Sometimes that works.

Actually, all you really need is [vodpod id=Video.3736209]. Try that. Sometimes simplest is best.

I’m afraid I’m having some issues with my own computer so I can’t test it myself.

    Hi Raincoaster,

Usually, I use the off-line Windows Live Writer, and I have not had problems embedding YouTube videos. But to follow your suggestion, I tried to add the code into the the post utilizing both the “Add Video” button and by just pasting it into the HTML. This did not work. The “Add Video” button seems not to paste in the code, and using cut-and-paste to put it into the HTML code causes the browser to just reflect the code as a literal.

Ah, I think I see the issue now. No, you can’t add a VODPOD video that way. You need to follow the instructions at Vodpod specifically for use on WordPress.com:

Essentially you need to add it to your own personal Vodpod account, then use the Add To WordPress.com button. As far as I know, it won’t work in offline blog editors at all, although you can use them to work up the rest of the text. You may have to make a fake draft post to get the exactly correct code into your blog (I think Vodpod makes you put it in a new post, not an existing one) but once you’ve got the code in any blog post, you can cut and paste to move it where you want to go.

    Correct, Raincoaster,

That’s exactly what I tried before posting my query.

Please reread that first post, which describes precisely those steps.

I had mentioned that I managed to create a successful draft post by following VodPod documentation (such as it is), and that draft post shows up in the preview just fine.

But what I want it to do instead is to embed the video just before my signature in my posting on my blog located here: http://wp.me/pGUvK-3g

With respect, I think we’re going in circles.

Before I started this thread, I consulted two somewhat unhelpful descriptions of how to do this on these web pages:

The reason they were unhelpful is that they seemed to have been written for an earlier version of the Vodpod web site and never updated.

Thanks for clarifying. Now, when you’ve got the video in your Vodpod account, have you confirmed that you can view it there?

I just checked a Vodpod in my blog, and the code is

    [vodpod id=Groupvideo.1670600&w=425&h=350&fv=]

Which is pretty basic, but the ID is formatted differently from yours. I’m wondering why that might be, and wondering if the Facebook video might have privacy restrictions on it. Draft posts are not reliable indications of what’s in the actual post.

    Never mind, Raincoaster,

    I cracked the nut.

For some reason I can’t explain, I tried once again to paste the HTML from the draft post VodPod into the post where I wanted it to appear, and this time it worked.

It is not correct that I only needed to add this
    [vodpod id=Video.3736209&w=425&h=350&fv=]
which is not really a URL at any rate.

Instead I needed to add the whole shmeer like this:

    <span style="display: block; width: 425px; margin: 0pt auto;"> [vodpod id=Video.3736209&w=425&h=350&fv=]</span>
    <div style="font-size: 10px;">more about "<a href="http://vodpod.com/watch/3736209-1-triilon-dollars-on-wars">1 Trillion Dollars on Wars</a>", posted with <a href="http://vodpod.com?r=wp">vodpod</a></div>

You can add the shortcode in on some themes in the visual editor; the code you pasted HAS to be in the HTML editor, and some of it can indeed be removed, just FYI. I remove the extra code on mine, to keep it cleaner.

But the important thing is you got it to work.

Thanks for the effort to help me, Raincoaster.

Right now, this feature seems to be a bit wonky, sometimes working, sometimes not, depending on the theme and the mood of the Fates.

I’m marking this resolved, but for future people who find this thread, be aware that as of June 1, 2010, this feature appears not to be rock solid.

Does ANyone know how to put a Facebook video in to a post?

    Have you read this thread?

This YouTube might help you. http://bit.ly/9a5Cix

Many videos on Facebook is from other streaming video sites so you can just click the video and find out where it comes from. Then get the embed code and copy it to WP.
