However, before I do so, please confirm that you understand that this is something that cannot be reversed. Once emptied, that data is gone. IT cannot be recovered. If you think you will need the site content for anything in the future, I would encourage you to set your WordPress.com site as “private” rather than emptying it.

I like to have absolutely everything done before emptying a site. Just as a “better safe than sorry” type thing.
