Have spent 10 minutes trying to delete spam – about 2,000 spam entries.
As always I keep getting the goshdarnit error message and about 150 spam entries deleted each time.
How difficult is it for WordPress to code a delete spam function. It’s really not that difficult.
Does WP want us to ever delete our spam folders by making it this difficult?
The blog I need help with is namawinelake.wordpress.com.
Staff do not empty spam filters for us. That’s our responsibility but read on for more information please.
The vast and overwhelming majority of all so-called information on the internet is spam. Over 80% of all so-called comments submitted to .wordpress.com blogs every day are spam.
The worst of all spam containing malware and viruses is not sent to us. It’s removed as it could bring down many blogs if opened.
On the spam that Akismet catches it takes only seconds to click “empty spam” and you don’t even have to click “empty spam” if you don’t want to. Akismet will maintain comments it has caught for 15 days from the time they were received, and then it will delete the comment automatically.
If you get spam that slips by Akismet then mark it as spam (do not delete it) and over time Akismet will learn it’s spam.
There is no such thing as eliminating all spam but Akismet works very well. For more information please take the time to read “5 things every blogger should know about spam” on this page Akismet: How it works http://akismet.com/how/
Thanks for your message but it is not relevant to the question.
I get a few hundred spam messages a day which are “caught” by Askimet. So far, so good!
However, when I try to delete 2,000 messages, it takes about 10 minutes. When I go to spam, and press “delete spam”, I get the hour glass and after about 30 seconds, the goshdarnit there’s an error. I then go back to the spam folder and see there’s 50-100 less spam messages and then I need to press “delete spam” again, and repeat and it takes about 10 minutes.
That’s the problem!
Did you note this? On the spam that Akismet catches it takes only seconds to click “empty spam” and you don’t even have to click “empty spam” if you don’t want to. Akismet will maintain comments it has caught for 15 days from the time they were received, and then it will delete the comment automatically.
It does NOT take seconds to clear 2,000 spam comments. Well actually it does, 600 seconds or 10 minutes because the “delete spam” function crashes and you get the goshdarnit error message.
However, I did not know that spam comments are deleted after 15 days, and so, I will not delete another spam comment again!
Hooray! You are free of that frustrating drudgery. Happy blogging!
