Enhancement Request: Autoscrolling the editor

  • Please have the editor page autoscroll to the middle of the screen when the cursor goes below the bottom of the screen. This makes writing articles much easier without having to touch the mouse every few minutes to move the page up.

    It’s also particularly frustrating that when you do move the page up, you can only move it up by a few lines. This means that about every 3 minutes, you’re moving the mouse again to scroll the page (depending on how fast you type). If we could move the bottom of the page where the cursor is to the top of the screen, we could type for a whole lot longer before needing to touch the mouse. If the scrolling could happen automatically, we wouldn’t need to touch the mouse at all which allows us to concentrate on typing our blog.

    Thanks for sharing your feedback. I’ve had a look at the editor behaviour — when my text is at the very bottom and I start a new line (either by typing or hitting return), I’m moved up to the middle of the screen automatically.

    Would you be able to make a screenshot of what you are struggling with and upload it to your Media Library? I just want to check the editor is working as it should because I don’t think you shouldn’t have to keep manually moving the editor/cursor up every few lines.

    I’ve replied via email. If you have access to my private pages, I have created a private page with both a video and a screenshot image to get an idea of how the new editor has been working for me.

    Note, the editor has never autoscrolled ever. Not the old editor, not the new editor. And because the last line of the screen is covered by the editor’s somewhat translucent status bar, it makes it even more frustrating when the text goes under it.
