Enlarging the Custom Header (My Logo)

  1. Can I make my custom header (my logo) larger? I've tried various sizes but it always ends up the same. I'm using the Hum template and have purchased the Custom Upgrade option.

The blog I need help with is

  2. Hi Sharon,

How much larger do you want it? Do you want to keep it in the same spot? It might be limited by its location on the page. Give me a bit more detail as to what you want to do with it, and I'll have a look!

  3. Hello Richard,

    Thank you for your response.

Yes, in the same area, and 20% larger? I suspect you're right, that I'm constrained to the area.
Could I somehow override the left and main columns and span them both? I could create a transparent png that could float over the menu and some of the main area, which I think would push the image down a bit; in my mind's eye that seems visually ok. Is this do-able?

  4. Hmm, I'm not sure that what you're suggesting would work that well. Let me ask you a question: Have you tried using Safari's Developer Tools, or Firefox's Firebug, or Chrome's Developer Tools? All three can be of great help to someone like you who has an understanding of the web and CSS. WHen I discovered Firebug and it's live css-editing feature, a whole world opened up for me! :)

I mention them because, by using Chrome's tools right now, I played around a little bit and I saw 1 immediate thing that you could modify to give yourself a bit more room in that left column: the #branding header (basically, the left column) has a width of 180px; maybe try it at 200px or 220px? If you did that, you might want to increase the max-width of the #page div to 1000px from it's current 960px.

So, those are just places to start from. Play around with it, and let me know if you want me to take another look at what you come up with.

  5. I'll take a look at these tools, although I'm a little concerned that I will be over my head--my CSS knowledge wouldn't fill a thimble!
