I’m pretty sure this question has had to of been asked before I just can’t find it. Or it might be so simple no one needed to ask.
I’m trying to make only the excerpt show on the front page so you have to click on the actual post to read it. I have seen it in other themes but cant seem to find the option on this one? Is it possible?
The blog I need help with is positivelyfrugal.wordpress.com.
To create an excerpt please follow this guide:
Hope this helps!
I am sorry to contradict you, but Illustratr does support by default the excerpt feature I linked above. This is a list of all themes supporting excerpts by default.
Thank you guys both for the suggestions!!
I was about to use the more tag and it worked :)
@positivelyfrugal – you’re welcome :)

Illustartr doesn’t appear for me at that link when I filter themes by support for custom excerpts.
On my test site, custom excerpts don’t seem to appear in Illustratr. The first post at the URl below contains a custom excerpt (as shown in the featured image), but Illustratr doesn’t use it.
Do custom excerpts appear for you in Illustratr if you set up a test/sandbox site?
Indeed, you are absolutely right :).
Although Illustrator is listed in the themes supporting excerpts by default, it actually doesn’t support them (I mean, after few tests with it and comparing different themes in the list, it doesn’t look like to me). I was assuming that the Excerpt box (or custom excerpt) was usable by all the themes supporting excerpt by default and listed there (and hence the reason of my answer), but it appears (from my tests), can be used only by the ones with Content Options and Illustratr is certainly not one of them.
If this is the case, could it be the support guide about excerpt (the one I posted) is slightly misleading or am I missing something? I am curious to know what you think about it and of course, sorry for the previous overconfidence :).

Illustratr isn’t listed when I filter themes by support for excerpts. It doesn’t appear when I do a specific search query for it either:
whereas a theme like Intergalactic does:
I’m not sure why it might be appearing for you. If you have questions about it, you could tag this thread with modlook if you’d like to ask a member of staff.
Ah, I see what you mean. I have no idea tbh :)
That screenshot is quite odd, as it shows a bunch of other themes that also don’t display excerpts by default, such as Twenty Fifteen. I don’t have an explanation, but the theme showcase was definitely misbehaving when you took the shot!
Thanks, @kathrynwp! It was odd indeed and misbehaved for few days, but now is behaving properly, fewer themes in the list and most important the right ones :)
Glad things are working OK now!
