exerpt via email
Hi all, I need a bit of clarification on how to do exerpts in emails, do I just type exerpt with brackets around it then the text of the exerpt?
The blog I need help with is bobdavcav.wordpress.com.
Are you referring to a wordpress.com issue? If so please provide specifics so we know exactly which wordpress.com feature or function you are referring to.
If you are referring to emails sent out to subscribers to your blog then you can set the RSS feeds to “summary” on this page in your blog Settings > Discussion.
If you are referring to a blog subscription message please see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/blog-subscription-widget/
If you are referring to creating excerpts in the posts themselves you can use “the more tag” and use it to split content wherever you choose. http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/
For the post by email, see the shortcode section in the following support page.
@thesacredpath, congratulations! You understood right away. I have that page stored locally, and am still a bit confused. Do I type [exerpt] text [/exerpt] The example post doesn’t show an exerpt shortcode, so I’m a bit unclear how to do it.
Yes, you type that into the email. The thing is though not all themes will show “excerpts” on the main page of the blog when you use the excerpt function.
What you might have to use is the “more” tag shortcode at a midpoint or wherever within your post (email). I haven’t played with the post by email much so I’m not completely sure on all the shortcodes.
You can take a look at this post by Panos on the excerpt function and which themes will use it on the main page.
I already know about this, I believe it was you who helped me on the topic of exerpts a few weeks ago.
