I already have a website from another source, but I want to switch everything to WordPress. I have a book in old PDF form and I need to convert it to mobile/kindle friendly download. How do I get started?

Where is your website hosted now, and what did you use to build it?

We used GoDaddy for the domain name and it is on CARD. I didn’t do it, but looking to move everything to WordPress. We have a book that we want to offer as a download, but it is still in an old PDF format. I see you have a software to convert to downloadable and mobile friendly formats. This is key to our business. Can you help?

Sorry, Carrd.com is where the site was built.

Thanks for the details. From what I can see, Carrd offers HTML, CSS and JS files with some of their paid plans:

This will not work here on WordPress.com, you’ll need an XML file to bring over your content: https://en.support.wordpress.com/import/

Can you tell us a little bit more about that? You can allow your users to download the file directly from your site with a link or a button. Were you rather thinking about embedding the book into the site?

First, how do I convert to XML?
We want to offer a free download of the book. It was published years ago and never made mobile friendly. It’s a PDF and is the actual book, i.e. every page and two pages at a time. Do you have software that can convert the book to a more user friendly, downloadable format?

It will need to be converted specifically to WordPress’s import format.

If they can’t do that, we won’t be able to import it.

PDFs are very download friendly. :) For providing that, just follow this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/uploading-documents/

Ok..easy for you. I have no idea what I’m doing! So..I need to ask CARRD if they can change to XML format? If they can’t and I can’t move my site to you can I still take advantage of the PDF download options to offer the freed download to my audience? I really need help!

    That’s correct.

If they can’t and I can’t move my site to you can I still take advantage of the PDF download options to offer the freed download to my audience?

Well, you can still create a WordPress.com site and just start fresh here.

And yes, on your WordPress.com site you can offer free or paid downloads for any PDF file. More instructions are in the link my colleague mentioned above.
