Export the whole blog

  1. chemicalmusings

I am considering moving to my own domain and would like to take my blog with me. I have looked at the various FAQs out there regarding exporting my blog to an XML file and then importing it to So far, it all makes perfect sense. However, I have a boat load of images integrated into my posts and was wondering of it is possible to some export the posts and the images (thumbs and fullsized) so that I can import them into As far as I can tell, there is no clear cut explanation out there regarding this.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  2. I don't know much about the import and export functions (except that there are already a lot of threads on the subject in this forum) but if what you want is your own domain, why not buy the domain name upgrade here and not have to move anything?

  3. It's my impression that it may be that if you leave your blog up the image hotlinking will not be a problem. However, if that's not the case, then each image would have to be uploaded into your new host's servers.

I'm also interested in hearing a definitive answer to this question from staff.

When you receive an answer to the feedback you send in on Monday will you please post it here so we can all share it?

  4. If the images are stored off site (in the likes of photobucket, then it wont matter since you've export the links and stuff. If they're hosted here you may have to reupload them all again.

  5. You can hotlink to hosted images with no problems. As long as you don't delete your account I think you should be okay.

Hopefully there is a way to avoid linking etc... I want to move the whole enchilada.

  7. I'm sorry I wasn't more clear above. Thanks to raincoaster for articulating what I meant to say. If your images are hosted on the servers and you do not delete your blog then I believe the images will be hotlinked.

I would still like staff to weigh in on this with a definitive answer.

  8. If you don't delete your blog, the images are OK to be hotlinked as long as you gradually move them over to your own server and change the links. Either way, I would never delete the blog in case you decide you want it back at a later date. The images will work from being hotlinked to your current blog though, that is for sure.

This is interesting. The ability to slowly work through the exported posts and upload the images one by one to another server is a boon.

  10. There is a feature request to download the images already in the works......when it is implemented is an entirely another issue....
