Exporting to a self hosting doesn't work

    Exporting to a self hosting didn't work.
    I followed the steps in WordPress tutorial on how to Export blog to a self hosting. I created the XML file on the old blog, then in a new hosting account (Go Daddy) I installed WordPress, clicked import, uploaded XML file, submit. After it runs for a while - it gives me an error message - "Unable to load the webpage because the server sent no data."
    I contacted GoDaddy. They said on their side everything works fine - it is something in that is preventing the transfer.
    Please help me resolve this,

    Hi Jackie,
    Thank you for the files.
    I was able to get some posts that were from file .002 , but I get the same error message (server sent no data) when I try to run the file .001.
    I suspect it could be the size... I read somewhere it should be under 2MB.
    File .002 was 1.8MB and went through, but file .001 was 2.79MB, and it didn't work.
    Is there any way to split the file .001 in two?

  9. Wow, I'm sorry that it was such a difficult import. I wonder if you might be having connection issues with your new hosting provider? If it times out in the middle of the process, that will cause the import to fail (and may explain why the larger file wasn't working). I'm glad it finally worked out for you.

    Hi Jackie,

    unfortunately after checking carefully transferred posts I noticed that some images are "missing". They're displaying , but they linked from old blog (even after updating the links via plug in). And they are not in new blog's media library.
    Is there a way that I can export images only? in bulk... because it's hundreds of them.

    oh, and I did checked the box "include attachments" when I was importing posts to new blog.

    Is your new site live? Can you link me to a page or post where the images are missing, and the corresponding page on, so I can take a look?

    Sure, new site is live.
    this is one of those posts:

    images are displaying, but if you check - they are linked from old blog at, and they are not in my .org media library.

    I noticed that it happens mostly with blogs from 2013 and 2014, when the posts from 2011 and 2012 got their images transferred and included in .org media library.

    Hi Jackie,

    I tried to upload all the files again. And I 99% of images did transfer (only 5-6 failed out of 1400- so that's ok). Some images (after updating urls) are still pointing to the site...
    I guess you can close this thread,
    I will have to update those by hand :-(


  19. We've been digging into this, and it looks like you may have been experiencing timeouts with your new hosting provider. I'm so glad you were able to get most of the images to work this time. Unfortunately, for those that didn't, it's out of our hands since it's on the import side, not the export side.

    I am so sorry that this has been such a complicated and time-consuming process for you.
