Featured images on pages

I can’t make the featured images override the custom header on pages in the Widely theme. The featured image shows in edit page but not when I update. The website I need help with is http://clairehiggott.wordpress.com/

The blog I need help with is clairehiggott.wordpress.com.

I noticed there’s another issue with this same theme so I’m having this thread moved to the themes Forum where Themes Staff can assist you.

(not a problem with the theme: it is working as designed)

Featured images in Widely do not replace the header: they work with posts only, and they show up below the post title.

I was following the instructions from WordPress.com’s own support pages which say the following:

Featured images allow for even greater customization, giving you the option to display unique custom header images for specific posts and pages……….. if you want to customize your About page, you can change the header image for only that page

Really hoping someone can help with this as I can’t see where I am going wrong.

The website I ned help with is clairehiggott.wordpress.com

I have already “helped with this”. The intro of the Support doc you quoted from is misleading. The function of featured images is theme dependent: in some themes they replace the default header image, in some themes they work in different ways. If you wish to display alternative header images, you need a different theme.

Thank you – your reply was helpful. I am very new to this and assumed a featured image was a featured image as described by WordPress!

    You’re welcome.
Compare with my own post on featured images:
