On the page there are pdfs and so on. These files were uploaded to a WordPress page. But if I look in the media library I can’t find this files! I even looked at wp_posts and there are no entries? How can that be? What is wrong with WP?

Additionally, why are there multiple files in wp-content/uploads/[year]/[month]

E.g. on the page I have a picture called picturename8.jpg. If I look in the media library I only have a picture called picturename14.jpg (file URL).

What is the reason for that file managment behavior? A recovered MySQL database from the provider without informing us? What can I do against this faulty behavior? The drive space on the webserver ran out of memory and now I’m searching for that reason.
