since this is my first attempt at css, forgive me if i sound very unclear because i am unexperienced.

-i bought a domain name through go daddy.
-and then am currently using it on wordpress.
-i want to edit the css myself (i bought the wordpress feature for that)
    -i downloaded filezilla
    -entered host
    -entered passwords

and it said, it could not connect to server.

i don’t know whether i enter the username/password of what?
i tried using various passwords and user names to accounts associated with this domain name.
it did not work >.> (i must admit i feel foolish)

i mentioned all the things that i’ve done.
what could i have done wrong

    please help.

The blog I need help with is

Filezilla is a FTP program used to upload and download information to web sites. We do not have FTP access to sites hosted on WordPress.COM, it is a security issue I believe.

    how can i customize things?

Above my paygrade a bit – but CSS here is an Addition to the existing style sheet not a replacement of the style sheet – there is an edit CSS in your Dashboard, can’t remember where but I think it us under Dashboard >> Appearance. Enter your changes in the window there. There is also some guidelines in the Support Documents (see “Support” at the top of the page.

Be aware there is not much support for CSS in the Forum and no official staff support for it.

    ahhh thank you.
i’ll try to look into it further.

We cannot add themes at wordpress.COM, we are limited to the themes found in the dashboard under appearance > themes. Themes found on the internet are for self-hosted wordpress blogs using the software from wordpress.ORG.

If you have CSS editing experience, you can get the paid custom CSS upgrade and renew it annually. It will allow you to stylize the appearance of themes you find here > Appearance > Themes, but it does not allow you to change the functionality, by editing the underlying template. Also note that CSS is theme specific, so you cannot use the CSS stylesheets from other themes with the themes here at wordpress.COM.

Since there is no official Staff support for the CSS upgrade, and precious little Volunteer support, I recommend that you don’t buy the upgrade unless you have at least moderate understanding of HTML and CSS because you must be prepared to do the work on your own.

If you are considering purchasing the upgrade, you can go to Appearance > Edit CSS. There wordpress has provided a preview function where you can try before you buy.

If you do purchase the upgrade be sure to read this article before starting your editing >
