    Hi,

I’m trying to set up and use a ElegantThemes theme on my hosting site (JustHost.com). I downloaded the theme I want (DeepFocus) and in the 3rd step of the setup instructions is this gem:

“Next you need to select DeepFocus and make it your default theme. Click
on the design link, and under the themes tab locate DeepFocus from the
selection of themes and activate it. Your blog should now be updated with your new theme. “

THERE IS NO “DESIGN LINK” of which this message refers… is there a way of creating it? I’ve already noticed that my JustHost wordpress (which is 3.0.1) is very different than the dashboard of my wordpress account which I just set up HERE… this one has many more options (but no ‘design’ link either).

    I’m very frustrated.

    Thank you,

    James

The blog I need help with is jameskelsey.wordpress.com.

Hi James. You appear to have a self-hosted WordPress.ORG blog and you’d therefore be in the wrong forum. Please ask your question on http://wordpress.org/support

You are currently in a WordPress.COM forum and our answers will not apply to your situation. Thanks and I hope you find a solution to your problem soon.

Sorry, you are in the wrong forum and need to head over to http://wordpress.ORG/support/ as that is where self-hosted wordpress blogs using the software from wordpress.ORG are supported.

These forums are for those hosted here on the wordpress.COM free hosting service and things here work differently and our answers typically will not work for you.

If you do not know the difference, see this support document: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ .

BTW, that stuff you are looking at must be very old as wordpress has not had a design tab since version 2.7 I believe. Everything is now under “appearance.”

Since that document is obsolete, I would not use it as a reference. Themes and wordpress has changed a lot since then and it might mess you up.

Yes, I do have a self-hosted blog here, but my only reason for creating was to look for the ancient “DESIGN TAB”. Here’s my instructions for installing ElegantThemes are out of date is sad (especially since I”m trying to find this answer in THERE Support forums as well.

I did email the creator of ElegantThemes to inform him about the need for an update.

I’ll ask here, but if you feel I should start a new thread, I will:

So, I found APPEARANCE>THEMES> ‘install themes’ tab.

My issue is this: The “instructions” told me to upload the directories using FTP, so I did… the ‘upload theme” choice allows me to browse my computer, but to add a FILE, Not a directory, and it’s as if there’s no way I can link the wordpress with the theme.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you,

    James

I call your sarcasm and raise you two, auxclass.

The CONFUSING part is the difference between the .org and .com and which supports what.

I’m trying to create my website and JustHost.com and thought that this was the place for my questions… with the other before for the self-hosting on wordpress.org.

PLEASE forgive my ignorance. I really am not trying to step on your toes here.

I’m sorry if we misunderstood you. Some days up 30% of the questions we Volunteers have to deal with here are coming from people who failed to read the sticky post at the head of the forum https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-read-me-first-before-posting?replies=1 and ought to be posting to http://wordpress.ORG/support

James, the theme installation with wordpress is different now although the old way works too, it is just more complicated.

Head over to wordpress.ORG and look in the documentation over there and you will find how to use the new installation method. If there is still confusion, post your question in the wordpress.ORG forums.

And yes, the .ORG or .COM thing is confusing. Good luck.
