    Hello @

To share your first post with First Friday, copy and paste the link of your post right into a comment here

You can also find more details from this link:
    https://dailypost.wordpress.com/2017/10/20/first-friday-73/

Let me know if you need further assistance.

    Regards,
    Rose

Thank you Rose. I hope I’ve done it right – it’s the link without the title. Anyway if there is no response I can try again!
    Best, Sylvie

    #3039786

You’re welcome, Sylvie. :) I am browsing the comments, but it has like 500, I don’t think I see your comment in the October 26 comments. Did you use different username?

    #3039800

Thank you again Rose. I can’t find it myself so reckon I’ve done something wrong and had better start all over again!

    #3039801

Sorry to bother you again Rose, but I’ve been unsuccessfully scouring the Internet to try and find the Blogging University Forums. I think I must be getting stupid in old age! I’ve just received the assignment for Commenting Basics, Day Two, and clicked on Go to Reader where I’m supposed to add a comment in the form of personal story. All I can see is list of other people’s urls and illustrations. Am I supposed to click on one of these and comment? It’s baffling. Alternatively please give me a link to the Forums and I’ll pose my question there. These websites are not designed for my generation. Thanks for your patience.

    Hello @sylvienickels,

No problem. Let me try to walk you through this.

The Blogging University is found in the WordPress’ The Daily Post, you can click here: https://dailypost.wordpress.com/blogging-university/

You may also want to check this support page about Blogging University:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/blogging-u/

There’s also a weekly Community Pool thread on The Daily Post, where you can seek or give feedback on any aspect of blogging. A new thread opens every Monday. Click here: https://dailypost.wordpress.com/category/community-pool/

Leaving Comments (i.e. in First Friday)
I will use a different Prompt, since First Friday commenting is only open during Fridays.

    1. If you’re on your WordPress Reader, you will see these options at the bottom of the First Friday post: http://prntscr.com/h361l2 – click the callout icon (I have marked it in red).
    2. Then you will see this at the bottom of the post: http://prntscr.com/h3625e *Note: you will need to scroll down because a lot of people are commenting.
    3. Once you see this box, where it says “Enter Your Comment Here” http://prntscr.com/h362hc enter your comment with the link to your blog post. Please note that you need to enter the complete URL including the “https”, you can refer to the previous comments. Then click “Send” when you’re done: http://prntscr.com/h362xq

Let me know if you need further assistance on this. I’ll be glad to help you further.

    Regards,
    Rose

I’m so grateful for your patience Rose, but I am finding it too difficult. When I click on your links, everything is fine. But when I click, for example, on the link in Number 2 of your ‘Leaving Comments’ advice, and then on the red button you mention, nothing happens until I click on your next link. The whole thing is increasingly puzzling and I think I’d better leave all this until my next life! My aim was to create a blog to be in touch with any others who, like me, are concerned with the world and the huge changes happening in society (certainly within my long life time) – but I think I’ll stick to writing articles and books which are more familiar to me! Thanks again.

    Hello @sylvienickels,

I created a short video tutorial for you. Please click here: https://youtu.be/J73Y7lRYgho

I hope you find it helpful. Let me know how it goes.

    Regards,
    Rose

    #3039819

So sorry, this link dioesn’t seem to match anything!

    #3039820

Those in my samples are mine. :) But the links would be the same for you.

    Regards,
    Rose

    #3039824

Rose, you are a gem. I originally made the mistake of copying and pasting your link into my browser which didn’t work, but when I clicked directly on your link it was fine. You have been so helpful. I have to go out now, but I’ll play it again when I get back and try some First Friday comments.

    #3039825

You’re welcome. You have a great week! :)

Hello Rose – I’ve achieved something, but I’m not sure if it’s what I wanted. I’ve put a comment on the Prompt word Fluff. At the moment it seems too be on my blog rather than on the Prompt word blog, so perhaps there’s something else I need to do.
I also realise that at the moment anything I do in the way of comments goes on to an existing blog I am developing for my books, and I’d rather keep them separate, so perhaps it would make sense to create a special blog for the Fundamentals course? What a lot to learn in the digital world!

    #3039832

Oh dear, it’s gone on my So, what next blog, which I really want to keep a separate venue for my writing. Presumably I can delete it, but then I have to find out how to put it on the Fluff Prompt page. I think this is probably all too much for me….

    #3039833

    Hello @sylvienickels,

I’m so glad to hear that you were able to leave comment. We can definitely work on how to put them in the right post.

The Daily Prompts works through Pingbacks.

Let’s the your Fluffy minds? post as example as prompt for Fluffy.

In order for you to participate, just add this code anywhere in your post:

    <a href="https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/fluff/">Fluff</a>

The code to add can be found in the Prompt post for the day.

    1. Click here to check the prompt for the day:
    https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/
    2. For today it’s Ghoulish. You will click it from here: http://prntscr.com/h4doh4 (Screenshot)
    3. In the post page, look for “Show Instructions” – it looks like this: http://prntscr.com/h4dqov
    4. Then copy the code. See here: https://media.giphy.com/media/3o7aCQpVsQnLUt78gE/giphy.gif
    5. You can paste it in a notepad/textpad while you compose your post on your blog. Then paste that code anywhere on that blog post.

In regard to Comments, there’s an added feature called Conversations, where you can enter your comments directly. You may want to check this out from this link: https://wordpress.com/read/conversations

Let me know if you need further assistance.

    Regards,
    Rose

I’m so grateful for all the trouble you have taken Rose; but I find all these codes and links increasingly confusing so I think I will give up on this course and get someone to create a blog/website for me. I’m spending too much time on this instead of revising the Kindle eBook I want to turn into a paperback. But I have so appreciated your patience and time.

    #3039835

You’re welcome. I understand. :) Wishing you best of luck on your book! :) :)

If you have any questions related to WordPress.com, please feel free to let me know. :)

    Regards,
    Rose

You are very kind and I think could help me as I have got my existing blogs hopelessly muddled with my attempts to follow the Fundamental course.
When I log in to ‘sylvienickels.wordpress.com’ I am presented with five addresses. I don’t think I have ever established the difference between an ‘url’, a website, a blog and a post. A|t the moment when I click on this I mysteriously come to the One Word prompt page for Ghouls.

I would like to get this clarified but presumably should not do so under this series of emails under First Friday. Should I address you elsewhere then I can explain exactly what the problem is? Basically I want to transfer the contents of one existing blog to the name of another site under ‘sylvienickels.wordpress.com’ calling it ‘sylvienickels.books’ Or perhaps it would be better too start again with a completely new site?

I do have on my computer a copy of WordPress tutorial files dated 2012. Perhaps there is a later version I could download and try to follow?

    Hello @sylvienickels,

    Thank you. :)

When I log in to ‘sylvienickels.wordpress.com’ I am presented with five addresses. I don’t think I have ever established the difference between an ‘url’, a website, a blog and a post

Do you want to delete the other websites showing up there?

url – this is the address of the website that shows up in your address bar, and used to reach a website. It looks like this https://websiteurl.com

website – is the content/page that shows up when you reached the URL you entered in your browser’s address bar.

blog – it’s a type of website, were people normally publish articles, portfolio, journal, etc

post – this is the article in your blog

A|t the moment when I click on this I mysteriously come to the One Word prompt page for Ghouls.

Yes, because “Ghouls” was the prompt word during the time when I sent you my reply. Everyday, the prompt word changes. :)

Basically I want to transfer the contents of one existing blog to the name of another site under ‘sylvienickels.wordpress.com’ calling it ‘sylvienickels.books’ Or perhaps it would be better too start again with a completely new site?

Do you want to rename that blog (with your contents) to ‘sylvienickels.books’? I believe ‘sylvienickels.book’ is possible, without the “s.” I am trying to see if it would be more feasible to change the domain, instead of you transferring the site. Let me know what you think.

I do have on my computer a copy of WordPress tutorial files dated 2012. Perhaps there is a later version I could download and try to follow?

This is not possible, because that tutorial might be already outdated. :( WordPress.com is not a downloadable source, and it also doesn’t have option to use older version.

Let me know if you need further clarifications to any of the above. :)

    Regards,
    Rose
