Follow Blog feature not working.

  • People are entering their email addresses in the “follow this blog” box on my blog and are not getting signed up and not receiving emails to confirm signing up. Is this a bug? Please fix. This is a very important feature!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

  • Hi there,

Sorry to hear you’re having problems with your subscribers.

If someone is logged in to their WordPress account when they click that button, they will be automatically subscribed through their WordPress.com reader, rather than through email. I just tested subscribing in this way and was successful. It is possible to then set the reader to send you email updates whenever there is a new post by managing the reader settings at:

    http://wordpress.com/#!/read/edit/

If someone without a WordPress account contacts you to say they tried to follow you through email but were unable to sign up, you can direct them to contact us directly. We can help get them signed up for your site.

    Best!

  • This is unacceptable. Multiple people without WordPress accounts have complained about this to me, and I even tried to sign one of them up myself. I cannot direct every person having the same problem to you when this is a problem you should be fixing.

  • If you have a specific subscriber who has contacted you about not receiving the confirmation email I’d be happy to take a look and see if I can help you.

I am able to follow your blog with a non-WordPress account. It’s possible our confirmation emails are ending up in your subscribers spam folders. Unfortunately, it is usually much easier for your attempted subscribers to contact us directly because we will need to work with them on getting the confirmation email, which is something only they will have access to.

  • Hello,
I have the same problem. People are subscribing and not getting any notifications to their email address. When clicking the subscribe button you are asked to type in your email address, so how is it possible not to receive a confirmation to their account?
This is a huge loss in subscribers if so as people are not constantly looking into your blog. This is a huge issue and I want to know how else I can make sure, that my clients receive update emails everytime I add a topic to my blog? My problem is also that I do not know who subscribed? I dont receive any emails at all. Please help
    Thanks

  • @gayazahari: The two most common reasons people don’t receive the confirmation email is because they mistyped their email address, or because the confirmation email went to their spam folder. We are happy to help any user who is having trouble subscribing to a blog, you just need to point them our way.

You can see who is currently subscribed to your blog from your stats page. http://en.support.wordpress.com/followers/

  • Hi,
Thanks for your response. How is it possible that every single follower has the same problem? They all can not be doing the same mistake.

Here is one example for you.
(email visible only to moderators and staff) subscribed, received the confirmation email but does not receive an email, every time I add topics onto my blog.
    Please let me know.
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • The follower feature is designed to send updates to people when you add a new post. It looks like you’ve been adding pages to your blog rather than posts. The email address you provided is subscribed to your blog, so if you add a new post I would expect it to be emailed to him/her. Unfortunately, there’s no way to send out automatic updates when you add new pages.

    Best!

  • Oh my god, I am so sorry, my mistake. I now figured it out.
Thanks a lot for your valuable help.

    All the best
    Gaya

  • You’re very welcome! I’m glad this is sorted out for you now. Happy blogging!
