Formatting is lost after publishing

  1. My blog posts formatting has been messing up. It is fine in the dashboard then when I view it on the web its all crushed to one side and none page breaks are respected. When I try to go back to the dashboard it is still the same way I typed it. So the appearance of my blog is horrible.

The blog I need help with is

  2. Blog editors and word processors are not the same and do not work the same way. The web standard is one blank line only, so you cannot add more blank lines by pressing return repeatedly like you would do with a typewriter or in a word processing application. If you want to learn how to format and space your posts and pages see:

If you are working in the Visual editor, to get single spacing between paragraphs hold the SHIFT key down and simultaneously click ENTER at the end of the paragraph.

If you are working in the HTML (Text) editor, a single click of ENTER will give you a single-spaced line, and two clicks of ENTER will result in double spaced lines.

P.S. When you create a new post, always make sure the Format tool is set to Paragraph before you start typing. It's in the Visual editor Row 2 first position "style". See the illustration here If you forget to do that then edit the post, highlight all in the Visual editor, select Paragraph from the Format tool, switch editor to Text then switch back to Visual and click Update.

  3. I have looked at all of these links and they do not address the issue. I have not been doing anything different then all of a sudden the blog formatting will be lost once it is published.

Everything you suggested I do is how I have always been doing it but now when I publish it everything gets shoved to the side and my formatting is not respected. My previous posts did not have this issue. Thanks for your lengthy answer but it does not help or address the issue at all.

  4. I tagged this thread for a Staff follow-up. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond.

  5. If you're talking about the post "GUILT-FREE GOLDEN PANCAKES", then
    a) The image code is corrupt, so start by deleting the image and re-inserting it.
    b) Did you copypaste the content from another source?

By the way, the Top Posts widget in your left sidebar is broken and it's hiding the tag cloud. Open the widget, select the Text List or Image Grid option, save.

  6. At Justpi, They are original photos. I just realised that if I change the remove the featured image while the post is in published status then upload a new one it causes this issue. It just happened with my newest post.

I cannot fix it once this happens.

I don't really get what I have to do. All of this stuff is super confusing to me. All of the photos are original.

  7. The image is corrupt because the code for it is somehow caught up with the caption you gave to that picture. And there are mostly "curly" quotation marks where there should be "straight" quotation marks.

It looks like you used a word processor to get that code? or maybe it's just because the caption is messing with the image code? Are you typing your posts directly into the post editor?

Delete the image and re-insert it so it will display properly.

  8. I don't use word at all and I wouldn't know how to put curly vs. straight quotations if I tried. What on earth does that mean?

I really appreciate the help. As you can tell I am quite novice. I just want to type and post.

  9. OK. So I fixed a post by removing the images and putting them in again. The post was fine. Then all of a sudden the images are messed up again with no rhyme or reason.

  10. Then I go into fix it, and the formatting is lost again. First it was just the image messed up now when I go into my dashboard, it triggers the formatting to be lost all over again. It's just around and around. I have done nothing different. Since I posted the cauliflower post this problem has been recurring on every post. None of my older posts are affected and they were blogged in the exact same manner.

  11. Go to your dashboard settings->writing page and select "Wordpress should correct invalidly nested XHTML" and Save. Then try editing the post again, and edit the Top Posts widget the way JustPi said here: If you don't want to do that, just take it out completely; it's broken.

  12. I did that yesterday and still having the same problems today. Why are perfectly good pics suddenly causing all of these problems? Clearly there is an issue with the theme. I am doing everything the same way I always have and this issue has only started in the past week or two.

  13. Okay now I am really getting annoyed. I did everything above and it was fine. Removed all captions. Now, its showing up with all the oldnimages that i already removed and republished without. Its reverting afrer i updated?????

  14. Please give us a direct link to the post in question.

  15. I just realised. If I view the post in the iOS app it makes it go all haywire.

  16. Okay, yeah, that is seriously messed up. Can you confirm that you're not copy-pasting anything from anywhere and that you are using the dashboard New Post page to create this, rather than some post by email or whatever?

The first image which does not show has the code:

    <div id="attachment_1308" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 650px"><a href=""><img class="size-full wp-image-1308" alt="Ingredients for Nigeriapepper<br /><p class=" wp-caption-text"="">Soup” src=”” width=”640″ height=”544″ /></a>

  17. I swear that I am not copy pasting any images. I am copying links into the links window from urls but I clink on the logo in the visual editor and paste the link there. All photos are uploaded from my PC into the blog interface, etc.

You pasted some code there and said it was messed up. It's pretty much greek to me. Why exactly is it messed up.

The kicker is, I deleted that image and updated the post. Why has it gone back even though I deleted it and reposted?

  18. No, I don't mean copy pasting images, I mean copy pasting text.

  19. Oh sorry. Yes there is pasted text on those blogs from other sites but I use the little text paster thing in the visual area.

  20. Well, I truly think that's the cause of the problem. But if you've got the "Wordpress should correct invalidly nested XHTML" selected it should prevent the worst of the side effects.

You can see that sometimes you have narrow columns and sometimes wide: this is because you're copy-pasting in formatting tags from those other sites on the web. To avoid this, click to the Text editor, not the Visual editor, and paste the text in.

  21. I will try all of that but I need to mention again that the last time a removed the pics and reposted it reverted back to the pre update format.

That can't be caused by some faulty tags from another webpage?

  22. Try making a completely new post this time, rather than editing this one. You wouldn't believe some of the weirdness that invisible tags can do. Making a whole new post from scratch is tedious but will avoid any crossover of bad tags.

  23. Siiiiiiiiiggggggggh, OK. Thanks everyone for all of your efforts and putting up with me. I really appreciate it. I will go forth. If you all like flavourfull food, hot peppers and have a soft spot for the underdog please follow our blog!

  24. Let us know if it works out for you. I think it will. Since the images are uploaded already, you can just insert from the Media Library.

  25. Sio everything was fine then suddenly the problem resurfaced. My latest post is all messed up. I typed the whole thing in text mode, etc and suddenly today its crushed to one side again.

  26. Ok so when i go into edit mode on the wordpress app then press cancel since im not changing anything it messes up the formatting. I just tested it by looking at my post previous to this one and its formatting is now messed up. The iOS app seems to have something to do with it.
