FTP Password

  • Hello,
I personally do not have a paid site, but I am currently helping a company update their own website (kbygradio.com). It is an older WP-site, and the main admin is unable to sign in onto the WordPress site, though it still works when we sign in directly to the website itself. We are also trying to update to the latest version of WordPress, but we are unable to do so because our former web host was the only person who knew the FTP password and we are unable to contact him to get it. Is there any way that we can recover this password so that we can work on our website?

    Any help is appreciated,

  • If you can ftp to the site, it is not hosted here at WordPress.com.

There are 2 types of WordPress sites, those that are hosted here at WordPress.com and those hosted elsewhere.

    See the differences here:

For your type of WordPress, you can seek help with WordPress through the WordPress.org forums.

However your current issue is less with WordPress and more with needing access to your server. According to whoishostingthis the site you are referring to is hosted at godaddy. I would start by contacting them. They should be able to get the company up to date with accessing their site.

Once they can update the site, new versions are often available through the wordpress dashboard without having to ftp.

Regardless of your approach, your appropriate WordPress support is through WordPress.org – https://wordpress.org/support/.
