Theme inbalance2 –> Blog and interface language = German, but no umlaute on frontpage – only in posts…:-/

Hi again, we had a closer look at the issue you’ve reported and the issue is not with the Imbalance 2 theme.

The broken characters are coming from the custom excerpts (for example, scroll down on this post in the Editor mode and you’ll see broken characters under “Excerpt”). I also noticed that you did a Posterous import about 1 month ago. Did you use custom excerpts on Posterous? There have been issues with their backup files containing broken characters. Would you mind sending me the Posterous backup file so that I could do more testing?

Please have a look at the last article “Neuer US-Außenminister John Kerry trifft Angela Merkel”. There are broken characters (always ?? for the German Umlaute) on the frontend, e.g. “St??tte” whereas the backend displays correctly “Stätte”….!?

Yes, I have always customized the posterous excerpts. After I migrated them to WP I realised the character-mistakes and since there weren´t so many I tried to correct them manually in the WP backend – but in vain…:-(

I have exactly the same problem on the front page of the Suburbia theme… Not an issue of the Posterous import but rather a bug within the WordPress themes. Same problem exists with new posts written in WordPress…

Hope for assistance…

Hi there, each of your posts contains two parts, the main post body and the (optional) excerpt. The post you reference has correct characters in the post body, but broken characters in the excerpt, please see the screenshot: http://cl.ly/image/253P1K250e2v

Your theme, Imbalance 2, is using excerpts on the front page, that’s why you are seeing broken characters there.

It does look like the broken characters were brought in when you imported the Posterous backup. Since you don’t have that many posts (56), I recommend that you manually edit the excerpts (or remove them altogether, then the theme will just use the full post text to generate an excerpt). Please let me know if you need any assistance doing this or have any more questions!
