Get blog posts to appear as drop down from menu?
G’day everyone out there wiser then myself,
I was just wondering if there was a way to get a drop down menu to show your posts so that individual blog posts can be quickly accessed. Much like how you can create your own custom menus and drop downs from menus showing different pages and categories.
Hope to hear back from someone soon.
The blog I need help with is codonthecast.wordpress.com.
That’s not actually a good idea once you have more than about five posts. I have about 4200 posts; can you IMAGINE the drop-down?
So, instead we can link custom menus to category pages, archive pages (January, February, etc) or to the entire blog. Use the Recent posts widget too, of course.
To further what raincoaster says, since the menu systems here at wordpress.com are CSS/HTML based, if the dropdown is longer than the height of a visitor’s browser window, then they will not be able to access the stuff that is hidden at the bottom border of the browser window. CSS/HTML based menus are used for SEO purposes and also for maximum cross-browser compatibility.
First of all thanks for your reply. Very good point with the too many posts. However my blog is not one which gets updated frequently with many posts as it is more based around posting reports on fishing where there will only be a couple a month.
Maybe an idea would be to categorize posts into months of a year and then have the drop down come from that again? Would this be possible, do you know?
Posts are automatically grouped by month; that’s your Archives. Put the archives widget in the sidebar and play around with it’; does that do what you want? If so, you can take the link to each month and put that in a custom menu.
If what you mean is to clump all January posts of all years together, etc, then you’ll need to make each month a category and use the link to the January category in a custom menu. Easy.
