It looks like Google have changed their pages since the Support advice was written. There’s no ‘Alternate Methods’ tab any more and the ‘meta’ option link just returns a message ‘page not found’. I realise WordPress are not responsible for what Google gets up to, but has anyone found an alternative way of finding this meta content code and verifying a site. I’ve been going round in circles for hours! Thank you.
The process those with WordPress.com free hosted bloggers must use to verify their blog ownership with the major search engines with is found in WordPress.com support documentation at this link. As we cannot access metadata on free hosted WordPress.com blogs the instructions you have been reading do not apply to our blogs.
