Two step authentication is failing because my phone has been reset. I did not back up the codes. Can you recommend a course of action.

The blog I need help with is aschoolforlife.ch.

I have the same problem—new phone, and no idea how to log back in to the authenticator. I used one of my backup codes to login by desktop, hoping to turn off authentication, but apparently the backup codes don’t work in the turn-off function. I need to find out (a) how to log in to the authenticator properly; or (b) how to get past the required 2nd key to turn off authentication.

I welcome any help you can provide.

Hmm… so I just tried again with one of the backup keys, and this time it worked. Inexplicable… my version of this problem is solved, but I will follow this thread; I look forward to learning the solution to machacador’s original question.

Hi,I already reset my password but after that the ewo step authentication is on a new windows appears :

Please enter the verification code generated by your Authenticator mobile application.

And I didn’t backup barcode so I can enter this code I want to stop the two step authentication or if you have a backup of the barcode generated for my account I’ll configure my iPhone with google authenticator…

    Hi! I’m vinceor
That’s ok I just find an old backup of my iPhone’s apps so I manage to launch google authenticator configured by wordpress so I just access my account and I disable two step authentication, I’ll enable it again later and this time I’ll print the barcodes ans backup codes.
Thanks for your help, maybye you should warm people before enabling the two step authentication, or add a way to disable it for people who can’t access their account but you’ll need to verify ID with a secret question or something.
Anyway, That’s OK for me !!!

I don’t see any “need more help”

    #1260646

Hi, I don’t have any problems since I manage to find a way by myself to disable the two step authentication but I just see that I’m not the only one who was in trouble because you just gave me the same message :

If you have lost access to your WordPress.com account, please visit https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword and click “Need More Help?” if necessary.

and that really didn’t helped me because before asking you I did go on google, read forums and when I didn’t find any solutions I went here and asked you… If I just needed to reset my password that’s not a problem what I asked and I think what yixingsmile want is to know how to disable the two step authentication if an app like “google authenticator” isn’t set with our wordpress account because we change phone and didn’t backup codes or barcodes generated when we enabled the two step authentication (that’s the topic) and in help section there’s no solutions without backup codes …
Thanks Anyway macmanx and yixingsmile I hope you’ll have answers

Hm, I’ll see if we can get that link back.

We don’t handle account recovery issues on the public forums for obvious reasons.
