GoogleWebmaster Verification Problem

  • Why can I not verify ownership of the blog? I have followed these instructions to perfectly. The meta tag can not be verified or found by google webmaster.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

    I’m sorry for the trouble you’re having with this process. Just to confirm, are you using the instructions on our Webmaster Tools support page?

    I took a look at the code entered on the Tools page in your blog’s dashboard, and it looks like part of the meta tag might be missing. Can you try again to copy and paste the meta tag exactly as it appears in Google Webmaster (including the symbols at the beginning and end of the tag)? It should look like this:

    <meta name="google-site-verification" content="rc2RXSkjV5rz9P2s2hTwdDsnwTu4tD-gmruKUrqBGjs" />

    If that still doesn’t work for you, please let me know and I’ll take another look.

  • Hi Rachel,

    I have attempted pasting the code in in it’s entirety, as you have shown, multiple times. I have also attempted simply the content code, I have pasted without the “<” notations. I will try again today. I genuinely tried this verification process for over an hour. Also, yes, I did follow the webmaster tools support page to a tee.

    Thanks.

  • If you paste in the entire code and still aren’t able to verify the site with Google, please leave the entire code pasted into the Tools page and let me know so I can take a look at it for you.

  • Rachel,

    I believe I may have figured out the root of the issue. The blog is currently set to private. Would this impede the verification process?

  • Oh! I’m so sorry for missing that detail about your blog. That would indeed be a problem, since it means Google wouldn’t be able to “see” your blog and the meta tag you’ve added for verification there.

    Once you’re ready to launch the blog publicly (assuming that’s the plan eventually) you will be able to verify it with Google.
