Just want the grand gallery to have its own page [tab] on top of my home page that when clicked opens the gallery in fullscreen with the back button just like in the preview. I can do it with a post using the permalink. Is there a way to do the same thing with a page?

Oh oh! You did not read what the support bot linked to above > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
I’m sorry but we can’t help you here at WordPress.com because you are posting to the wrong support forum. We don’t run on the same software that self hosted WordPress.com installs like yours does. You need to post to the correct support forum for your software. It’s the one the support bot points to here http://wordpress.org/support/
