When I upload my photo for my profile, all I see is little boxes and not my picture. also, why does it take so long to upload to begin with?

Do you mean on your site itself? http://mypocketfulofposies.com/ is a self-hosted WordPress site, so I don’t have any access to its dashboard to check for you, but this is most likely a caching issue. You’ll need to manually refresh your site’s cache. The users in the WordPress.org forums will be able to advise you on the best way to do that:

I can see several images uploaded to your Gravatar profile. Gravatar images are cached, so it can take several hours after updating it on Gravatar.com before the new image will show here on WordPress.com.
