Having trouble with badges and widgets

Hi, I have an etsy mini widget and a flickr badge I'm trying to put into the side bar. After I paste the code into the text box the only thing that shows up in the sidebar is the actual code. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for the help.

  2. If you search the forums for "Flickr" you'll find several threads that will guide you through posting a Flickr widget for WordPress.com, which is different from the regular one. I'm not sure how the etsy widget works: can you post the code? Put it between backticks (`< --- those) so we can see exactly what you're trying to paste. Note that etsy is a selling site and that sales aren't allowed on WordPress.com blogs (refer to your Terms of Service for details), as I said in the other thread on this topic.

Thank you raincoaster! I guess I didn't understand the TOS as meaning you couldn't link to a site where you sold items. I guess I'll have to rethink using wordpress for my blog then. Can I post pictures in posts that link to my etsy shop or that a no no also? I thought the TOS was saying you couldn't link to unethical commercial content. Could you point me to the section where it says you can't link to a selling site. Thanks so much for your help.

  4. WordPress.com blogs are not commercial blogs so perhaps carefully reading this FAQs entry will assist you http://faq.wordpress.com/2005/12/08/adsense/

We have a very low tolerance for blogs created purely for search engine optimization or commercial purposes, machine-generated blogs, and will continue to nuke them, so if that’s what you’re interested in WordPress.com is not for you.

This thread will help with clarification as well http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=9627&page&replies=12

Please note that wordpress.org does offer an alternative for those who do wish to have commercial blogs. In that case you can either self-host or hire a webhost and have him or her download a free blog template from http://wordpress.org

Also note that if you have any questions they should be directed to staff via use of a feedback (button on top right hand corner of any blog page).

  5. Staff have in the past stated that one "discreet text link" to a selling site is okay, meaning one link per blog, not one link per post. But with a WordPress.org blog there are no such restrictions at all; if you're up for the technical issues, it could be a great solution for you.

Can I post pictures in posts that link to my etsy shop or that a no no also?

That's found in the FAQs thread at the link I posted above:

A discrete link to your business or a site you are associated with in the sidebar or an About page is permitted.

Again thanks for your replies. I wasn't going to use the blog strictly for commercial purposes, far from it, but if it's against the rules, so be it. I guess I was confused, because the guild I belong to has a wordpress.com blog and there a whole page dedicated to links to all the guild members etsy stores. That's why I had no idea it wasn't allowed.
