    Hello,

    First off, please excuse me if this is the wrong section for my question. Didn’t know where to submit. (:

    I’m not sure if this is possible, but is there a way to make the header and footer constant and make the content in between the only thing that changes?

    Here’s an example: http://sheilapinkel.com/index.html

    In Sheila’s site, the header and footer stay constant, despite whatever menu item you click.

    I understand that this may not be possible because wordpress.com, you create pages and as one clicks on a menu item, you’re selecting another page…. I don’t think this is a CSS question, but more of a web server/page question?

    I am using wordpress.com and have purchased the css custom edit.

    Just thought I’d try anyway.

    Thank you!

    Sorry, that is not possible here. That site is a really, really simple HTML site.

    Hey TSP,

    I’m wondering if any of the following are possible? I made a new topic forum about it, but got referred back to you. haha.

    Is it possible to make a fixed header and fixed footer and make them a specific color? I want my page to look similar to this site: http://www.sheilapinkel.com.

    Is there a way to make the header and footer fixed and a specific color using the CSS stylesheets? I’m on wordpress.com, not .org.

    Also, right now, my page is “flexible,” meaning when the viewer changes the size of the browser, the text and content move along with it. Is there a way to make it fixed using CSS?

    Thank you again for your help.

    You cannot build or use your own custom theme built from scratch at WordPress.com. The only themes we can use are those found here > Appearance > Themes This is a multiuser blogging platform. All blogs wearing the same theme are using the same underlying template and we cannot access the underlying files and edit templates or themes. http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/editing-themes/

    As you have CSS editing experience the upgrade will allow you to stylize the appearance of themes you find here > Appearance > Themes, but will not allow you to change the functionality, by editing the underlying template. It does not allow you to remove footer links to the theme designer or to WordPress.com.

    Also note that CSS is theme specific, so you cannot use the CSS stylesheets from other themes with the themes at WordPress.COM. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-css/

    Hi timethief,

    I’m not trying to build my own theme, but wondering if I can work off of the theme that I am currently using: Chateau. I understand that wordpress.com does not allow me to change the actual theme.

    I guess I’m not sure if changing the color of the header and footer is a CSS style question or inherent functionality question.

    So none of what I’m asking is possible then? Changing color of header and footer and main content?

    We need a link to your site. What is possible sort of depends on what theme you are using.

    You already have the brownish maroon in the footer and a border at the top in that color, Are you wanting the entire header behind the title and the navigation that color as well?

    Yes., that is correct.

    I also have an issue with the footer. If you click “publications”, you’ll see that the footer size is limited and the portion below the footer is white. How do I make the whole footer to the bottom of the page one color?

    Thank you.

    It seems you copied the entire CSS in the CSS Editor. That is not recommended. Read this for more info:

    Alright.

    My CSS has been fixed and I’ve only put in the relevante changes.

    Any thoughts on the following:

    _Making Header and footer same color with main content another color
    _Footer issue: When you click “publications”, you’ll see that the footer size is limited and the portion below the footer is white. How do I make the whole footer to the bottom of the page one color?
    _Aligning the content to the left (float:left; in .content did not work).

    thank you

    To change the article background color in Chateau, try this:

    body, #content, #menu li {
    	background-color: yellow;
    }

    Change “yellow” to the color of your choice.

    To change the footer text color in your Chateau custom CSS, you should change the color for everything that affects text in the #copyright section, like this:

    #copyright p {
    color: #ccc;
    }

    #copyright a {
    border-bottom:1px none;
    color:#ccc;
    }

    #copyright a:hover {
    color:#ccc;
    border-color:#350608;
    }

    You should find those lines in your existing CSS and change them.

    In the Chateau theme, this CSS is working to center the content:

    #page-inner, #footer-inner, #copyright-inner {
    margin: 0 auto;
    max-width: 1000px;
    }

    You need to add something like this to the custom CSS to override it:

    #page-inner, #footer-inner, #copyright-inner {
    margin: 0px;
    }

    And this will left align the text inside the footer:

    #copyright p {
    padding: 0px;
    }
