help: make gallery look more professional.

Hi, I use my wordpress page as a portfolio for my art work.

However I find that the gallery feature looks a bit unprofessional. Here’s an example of how one of my pages look:
    http://jessicamcleodyu.com/portfolio/drawings-and-illustrations/
The images are all different sizes, and the mass of text from the captions look even bigger than the thumb nails.

I saw someone else’s portfolio and liked the set up. http://chamooiworks.tumblr.com (I know it’s tumblr, but still). As you can see, all the images are aligned together neatly, and when you click on them, the image expands to full size and you can read the caption on the side bar.

My question is: is there a way to make my wordpress gallery function and look as clean as this other artist’s portfolio?

The blog I need help with is jessicamcleodyu.com.

Essentially, you are already doing something similar on your “Sticker” page.

Rather than use the default thumbnail gallery, which indeed will show reduced portrait and landscape thumbs, you can use the Square tiles option and move your text from the captions area to the Description area and then it will be “cleaner”. http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/#gallery-styles

In case you haven’t seen it, WPcom also has a “Portfolio” feature that you might want to explore using. See here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/portfolios/
    and here: https://dailypost.wordpress.com/2015/01/08/portfolio-best-practices/

And slightly OT: Your images are huge, which is fine if you want your visitors to be able to print out your images. However, for web display, it’s better to reduce and optimize your images before uploading them to your site. This has the added benefits of reducing image loading time, helps to preserve clarity and also extending the life of your free 3GB of space.

Ok, I’ll take a look into the portfolio types and thanks for the tips on the file size.
