My problem is I am downloading from a previous site which is being dismantled. I have a photo gallery on the old one so just included how I set that up. Unfortunately it does not show on the post. I’m also profoundly deaf so can only talk this way (written word). How do I resolve this please?

The blog I need help with is squidoospook.wordpress.com.

Are you referring to importing an XML export file into a free hosted WordPress.com blog? If the file is from WordPress.org install then when you import you will be prompted. The images are the attachments so say yes to including attachments. http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/

Thank you timethief. No, I do not even know what an XML file is. A friend of mine and I had another site on WP which she set up and it included a photo Gallery. Unfortunately we had words and she told me to get all my stuff off which I’m trying to do. Except I cannot now get the gallery to load, which makes my stuff look not so good. I thought therefore there was a way to do it here of which I am unaware?

Below are details about moving from a wp.org site to wp.com. You don’t really need to know what an XML file is because it will be automatically generated; all you need to know is that its format is what will work to export / import your site.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-from-wordpress-org

    Moving from WordPress.org

If you are moving from a self-hosted blog using the WordPress.org software, you can move your blog to our WordPress.com service with the following steps:

    1. Register a WordPress.com account and blog at http://wordpress.com/signup/
    2. In the old blog, go to Tools → Export and download the XML (WXR) file to your computer.
    3. In the new blog (on WordPress.com), go to Tools → Import → WordPress and upload the file you downloaded in step 2. After you upload the file, you can choose the option to Download & import file attachments if you want to move your media files.

Thank you so much 1tess. I tried that and then just selected myself from the list of admins. Then got notice saying thank you and will take about 24hours. I sincerely trust this means that the others won’t lose their work.

if you glance through that then you will see [scrollGallery id=31]

Did your images get transferred? It may be that you have to re-insert the gallery after the transfer.

It’s been 3 or 4 months (longer??) since I exported a blog (wp.com to wp.com) and don’t remember if galleries worked afterwards or not. I think they did. It’s after midnight here and I have to work tomorrow.

I’ll add a modlook so staff can see what you have…

    [scrollGallery id=31]

Did the Gallery originate on this post/page or another one?

Have you tried removing the “scroll” part before the word Gallery?

Otherwise, most likely you will have to reupload, reinsert or reattach the images that appeared originally in the Gallery.

    My misunderstanding.

“scrollGallery” is apparently generated by the NextGen gallery plugin when used on self-hosted sites. We cannot use it here on WordPress.com.

Thank you Jennifer and the others for all their help. I do not really understand self hosted sites? Does this then mean I cannot get a gallery up on WordPress.com?
Also many thanks to timethief and 1tess.

No, it just means that whoever created the original site for you used a plugin that we cannot use on WordPress.com. We definitely can create Galleries here on our sites. WordPress comes in a couple of flavors; you can read about them here: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If you have the photos from the original gallery available, you should be able to recreate it following this Support doc: http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/

Let us know if you need any more help with this.

Wow justjennifer that looks exactly like what I am looking for, and thank you so much for all your help. It will take me a few days to get the hang of and set up as am otherwise occupied at the moment. Once again thanks so much.

Well justjennifer I have just got two up on my Raquel one. Problem is that they are thumbnail size and know not how to adjust this. I was always led to believe that if one does this then one distorts the image? Will have to try again on another article with some of my own photos and see how it goes. Thank you once again and am beginning to think how I wasn’t able to work this out for myself?
