Home page query
I’m using the Pilcrow theme. There is an option for a HOME page but although it shows up on my theme, when I go to my dashboard it isn’t listed in my PAGES. Why not? If I try & create a new HOME page I end up with two – the default one still doesn’t work.
The blog I need help with is carollovekindotcom.wordpress.com.
By default the front page of the blog is the post that displays all posts in your blog. Though there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts (not pages) http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ and we cannot post to more than that one page, we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page. You can create a custom menu and include your own Home page in it instead. You can include whichever items you want and exclude all others.
Oops! “is the post” was meant to be “is the page”
re: Not Found
Apologies, but no results were found for the requested archive. Perhaps searching will help find a related post.
By default the front page of your blog displays all posts. The 404 (page not found) error message on the front page of the blog appeared because the Admin of the blog deleted the placeholder Hello World post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/not-found/ As soon as you publish a post, not a page it will disappear. Read the differences between Pages and Posts.
I’m still not sure what this means. How can I write something for my Home page if I can’t access it?
Okay – got it! Thank you so much! WordPress is the most complicated thing I have used since I first encounter the alphabet! :)
If you wish to create your own Home page then see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
After your create it do as I said above please. Create a custom menu and include the Home page you create in it.
If you intend to have posts displayed here http://carollovekindotcom.wordpress.com/blog-4/ be aware that you must set a static front page to do that.
Please be sure you fully understand the differences between Pages and Posts. http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/
The front page of the blog by default will display your posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. If you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts.
To do that create two pages > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.
Front page displays
