Home Page - Summary Posts

  1. Hello,

I have been trying to get my homepage (Chateau Theme) to display summaries of each post with the featured image similar to what is shown on this site here:

I have tried changing under "Settings", "Reading" and changing the option for each article feed to show "summary" instead of "full text", but nothing changes. I would also like to add a page up top entitled "home" to make it easy for people to get back to the home page.

Any idea how I can do this? Here's my site for reference:
    Thanks for your help!

The blog I need help with is

  2. Do note that that setting here Settings > Reading is only for reducing your RSS Feed

To split content in your posts on the Chateau theme you insert "the more tag" into each post.

  3. Thank you timetheif...I will try that. Any idea how I can create the "Home" page and link back to the main screen instead of creating a new content page?

  4. Any idea how I can create the "Home" page and link back to the main screen instead of creating a new content page?

I don't know what that means. By default the home page of your blog and the only page which you can post to is the front page of your blog.

  5. Pages are static and are for content that rarely changes. They sit outside of the blog structure and you cannot post to multiple pages in any blog. There is only one main page for posts in a blog and all posts will display on the main blog page. There is no way to exclude posts from the main posts (blog) page.

The front page of the blog by default will display your posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. If you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page for your site and a page for posts.

  6. I would just like to create a page/tab at the top that says "Home" so that if someone navigates to another area, they can select home to get back to the main page.

  7. 1. If you think that the static pages you create will automatically update then you are wrong. Only dynamic pages (Categories, Tags, Archives) created by the software will update automatically.

Though there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts and we cannot post to more than that one page, we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page. We organize posts by assigning categories to them. You can create a custom menu and add the categories into the custom menu.

    Here’s a link to a custom menu walkthrough >

    2. You cannot advertise any product you do not personally create or any service you do not personally provide. Aside from a blog being accepted into WordAds no blogger initiated advertising, retailing or reselling the work or products created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted blogs. E-commerce transactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on free blogs from and being free hosted by

There is no upgrade you can purchase from that allows blogger initiated advertising on a free hosted blog.

If you do require an ecommerce site, advertising and/or affiliate links you can hire a web host and get a free software install from Refer to >

  8. I would just like to create a page/tab at the top that says "Home"

Create a custom menu and you can Add a Home link, or remove the built-in Home link, and/or rename it.
scroll down to "Other options, special cases and tricks" here

  9. Time Thief thank you for your info...I was able to successfully accomplish by creating the customer menu as you suggested.
