How can a stranger to me claim to be blogging from my site?
On my email notice informing me of a “like” by Kylie Bannink, Sunshine, it says that she blogs from my site…hugmamma’s mind, body, and soul. How does that happen? I have no idea who this woman is and why she would make such a claim.
The blog I need help with is hugmamma.com.
It sounds like the automated message WordPress.com sends to an author or site owner when someone “likes” a post. The message is not sent by the person who liked your post.
As to why your site info shows up in the “Great posts worth seeing from” the person who liked your post, I do not know, but will tag this for Staff input.
Please subscribe to this discussion using the subscribe link in the sidebar if you haven’t already so that you will see their reply. Also, thanks for being patient while waiting as Staff are at a meetup and waiting time may be a bit longer than usual.
Also, if I have misunderstood you, please correct me.
The person in question has her own money-making website, so it’s almost as though she’s attached herself to my blog in the hopes it will direct traffic her way. It’s like being spammed via “liking” my post. She’s not able to be caught by Akismet, it seems, because she’s not “commenting.” I can send you the email notice if you like. I’ve saved it to my “spam” emails.
Thanks for the additional information. Unfortunately, spam likes are a well-known issue on WordPress.com. There are literally dozens of forum threads on this. If you want to read more about it, I’ve added a tag in the sidebar on this discussion.
No need to send the email to me, a forum volunteer. But even though the person who liked your post may be a spammer, I would not mark a legitimate notification email from WordPress.com as spam in your email program. That may have undesired results in the future.
Thanks for the help. I figured other blogs were probably also victimized by these “hangers-on.” Notice…even a comment to this conversation is a spam. Wow! Can’t escape these leeches.
hugs for taking the time!
