How can I add this Widget?

  1. Hi there. I'm new to WordPress and I'd like somebody to please explain how to add this widget:

to my WordPress blog. I've got no idea!

  2. You can't if your blog is a blog; the widgets we have are all available in Dashboard > Presentation > Widgets. We can't add new ones or use anything with Javascript, which that widget has. The closest thing we can do is to use the dropdown option in the Categories widget.

If your blog is hosted using software, you can add that widget but you'll need to ask over at as we use different software than .org blogs.

  3. Thanks for your help. WordPress really should include a proper collapsible categories widget, the category list can get long - as I've seen on some people's blogs.

  4. A few people have suggested it before. Probably the best thing to do is to send an email to staff letting them know you think it would be a nice feature to add. They keep track of suggestions and the more people who suggest it, the more likely it is that they'll take a look. Sometimes staff can miss forum threads, so sending an email as well never hurts. :)

  5. and run on different software. We cannot download plugins and use them on blog as and, in fact, we have no plugins tabs.

The Categories widgets on blogs have features which allow options for configurion and one these is "show as dropdown". These are all the options which can be located by clicking on the blue and white icon on the Categories widget.
    Show as dropdown
    Show post counts
    Show hierarchy

HTH and Happy New Year! :)
