How can I edit the font and alignment of image captions?

I get varied results as demonstrated in these two posts:

Some captions are in bold, some are not, some appear with a hyphen on the first line, followed by my originally intended caption, and some without the hyphen (have no idea where the hyphen or second line comes from).
I’m not very fluent in HTML so please be kind in your responses. I would like to be able to have a constant bold font on one line in the center of the caption field at the bottom of my pictures.
    Thanks for the help.

The blog I need help with is

Your first example shows captions as they are supposed to show in the theme you’re using. In the second example the code is messed up (because you tried to apply some change after you inserted the captioned images, and that’s not possible). You need to delete everything and re-do the page. Add all the text first, insert the captioned images last; after you insert a captioned image, always make sure the cursor is outside the caption area before doing anything else, and never highlight a captioned image to apply any change via any of the tools of the Visual editor.

To change the styling of the captions once for all you’d need the Custom Design upgrade. Without the upgrade you can only do it on an image by image basis, and it’s complicated. See this post of mine:

Thanks very much. As I mentioned imop, I am utterly useless when it comes to text, but your explanation was right on the money. I was able to get the picture and caption to look the way I wanted to with the help of your easy workarounds. Brilliant!
Can I ask what I should add to the code and where, if I want to make the caption bold font?

You’re welcome – and if you managed to do this, and you find it easy, then “utterly useless” is a very bad description!

As you noticed, the style attribute accepts multiple commands inside the quotation marks. Each command must have this form:
The command for bold text is this:
    So instead of this:
    <p style="text-align:center;color:#666;font-family:Georgia;font-size:12px;margin:10px 5px 4px;">CAPTION TEXT HERE</p>
    you’ll write:
    <p style=”text-align:center;color:#666;font-family:Georgia;font-size:12px;font-weight:bold;margin:10px 5px 4px;”>CAPTION TEXT HERE</p>`

    <p style="text-align:center;color:#666;font-family:Georgia;font-size:12px;font-weight:bold;margin:10px 5px 4px;">CAPTION TEXT HERE</p>

Hi there, I am wondering how I align the sites title and tagline to the left of the header image? It is currently sitting in the centre. see below

To change that you need the Custom Design upgrade.
