How can I link a page on the menu of one website to a page on another site?
I have just set up a new website (url below) about self publishing, and I want to set a link on a page on the menu of another site (worstcountryintheworld.wordpress.com), which is labelled ‘Self Publishing’, so when people click on that it takes them to the relevant page of the new site. I’ve tried doing this through Links on the Menu page but then the page doesn’t appear on the menu on the site. (Does that make sense?) Any help much appreciated.
The blog I need help with is selfpublishingforthetechnicallychallenged.com.
Take a look at the Support article about how to add a custom link to your menu:
Want a menu tab to link directly to another website? No problem! Type in the URL where you want to take someone when they click on it, add Link Text to specify what the tab will say, and then click Add to Menu.
Thanks for the response. I already tried this but although the page appears on the menu in edit mode, as’Custom’ rather than ‘Page’, it does not appear on the menu on the site itself.
Just to clarify so I can make sure I understand:
Are you trying to add a new menu item with the text “Self Publishing” that points to http://theworstcountryintheworld.com/ ?
Or are you trying to add a link inside the content area of the “Self Publishing” page on your blog that already exists at http://selfpublishingforthetechnicallychallenged.com/self-publishing/ ?
Thanks for getting back to me – I’d sort of given up this particular problem. I have the same menu item, Self publishing, on both worstcountryintheworld.com and on my new site selfpublishingforthetechnicallychallenged.com. What I want to do is link the menu item from the first (worstcountry) so that if people click on it it takes them to that same menu item on the second (selfpublishing…). Does that make sense?
Thanks in hope
Totally makes sense! I checked the custom menu you setup on the http://theworstcountryintheworld.com/ blog and it looks correct to me: I can see a link for “Self Publishing” that points to http://selfpublishingforthetechnicallychallenged.com/self-publishing/
The only reason it’s not showing up on http://theworstcountryintheworld.com/ yet is because you haven’t selected the custom menu as the primary navigation, so it’s not taking effect yet.
Here are some steps to fix the problem:
1. Go to Appearance > Menus in the http://theworstcountryintheworld.com/ blog
2. lick the “Manage Locations” tab at the top. Select the custom menu you created as the Primary Navigation
3. Click the “Save Changes” button
That should do the trick!
Brilliant – it works! After all this time, and so simple too. Thanks a million for your help.
