How do I add a widget?

  1. I want to try a stats counter via a widget, but I don't know how to add one.

  2. Go to Dashboard -> Presentation -> Sidebar Widgets. Click and hold on teh widget you want to use and slide it over from your Available Widgets Pool to the Sidebar you want it on. Release your mourse button once it gets there. Arrange the widget how you want them and clikc on Save Changes when you are done. Do note though that if you use one widget, it does replace your sidebar so remember to use all of the widgets that you want to.

    Hope this helps,

  3. Hi!
I'm a new blogger here and I would like to ask:
Can I install other sidebar widgets [except from the intalled]?
    If I can, how?

    Thanx a lot!

  4. Afraid not. Like the FAQ on plugins, that would be a security risk as this is a shared enviroment.

  5. Greetings.

Hum, i tried checking Dashboard -> Presentation -> Sidebar Widgets
but there is no sidebar widgets, only Themes.

    Do help!

  6. The version of Girl in Green that is used here doesn't support widgets.

Which is strange because I could have sworn we modified this one months ago over on the WPMU support forums to work with widgets.

Send in a feedback asking for widget support for this theme and point them to this thread. I still have that zip somewhere in case they want to look at it.

  7. thanks a lot drmike,
but i decided to change the theme.
it was too green-ish for me anyways.
    THANKS A LOT. =]

  8. I used it on my Pimp My Blog blog. :)

  9. Hi,

I'm new here and I'm having trouble linking my icons/buttons.
How do I link my Gmailme button so people can send a mail to my mailbox???

  10. Provided your gmail button is not javascript (see the FAQs) you can place it inside a text widget and place it in your sidebar.

  11. R., I know you're new but please try to provide a link to anythign off site that gets discussed around here or provide teh code you're trying to add in. These forums are a teaching tool and, like TT suggests, if we don't know what you're talking about, we have to guess as to an answer.

It's just regular HTML code in the sidebars. Stuff like javascripts get stripped out though for security reasons.

    Hope this helps,

  12. I cant show emblem for technorati...I tried putting the link to the blogroll and to the sidebar widget but the emblem does not appear. I tried going to the FAQ but does not help either. Any step by step advise please for a new blogger who wants to explore!

  13. What do you mean by the emblem from technorati? I ask you because we can not use javascript buttons and embeds here. Would you please read these

  14. The emblem for technorati is a Javascript and user inputed javascripts are removed for security concerns. If they were allowed, it would be child's play to cause havoc around here.

  15. Hmm, I was reading the "other" FAQ and saw this little hint :

"You must change that line of code to this:
    < a href="">Technorati<br / >
The number/letter sequence is what you need.

You do not have to have the word ‘Technorati’ there, you could use an image.
That can go into a text widget or your Blogroll."

    See for the whole entry.

  16. Does the theme Dusk not support widgets, either? I try to drag and drop, but the widgets do not "stick" where I put them. They simply slide back to their original place, with the sidebar box still encouraging me to edit it if I don't want the default.

  17. Amanda, that's a different issue. If you have the widgets under that theme, then they should work. If the theme wasn't "widgetizied", then that page wouldn't be there for you.

What browser and browser version are you using?

There's a trick that you can try. When you pick up the widget and go to drop it, you can tell if the software has "paid attention" to the move if the other widget move to make room for it.

    Hope this helps,

  18. If I want to add the widget from this site to my sidebar, how do I do it?

  19. The LibraryThing widget uses javascript, which isn't allowed here at So you can't use it to your sidebar, or anywhere else on your blog here.
