How do I create a widget that allows me to post links from articles I've written

  1. I want to post links to articles I've written for other publications. An In the News section.

Also, is there someone I can hire to help me customize my site? I host with you and really like wordpress but need some more help as my site grows.

  2. There are a couple of ways to do that.

I recommend adding Custom Links to your Menu:

Then, these could either be in your navigation menu up top, or you could use them in a Custom Menu Widget instead:

As for help, we do have a directory of trusted folks for hire at but I really recommend trying it yourself, it's really the best way to learn.

Start at and refer to for advice. We're also here if you need any help.

  3. I do not have a theme that supports a custom menu. I'm happy to change themes, but I'm a novice at this. Could you please recommend a theme that would easily transfer my existing site so I don't have to do reformatting?

    Thank you very much

  4. As long as the theme supports widgets, you can use a Custom Menu Widget instead:

  5. Ok, I put the widget in on the right side. Now how to I add the links to articles on other sites. For example...I want to add this link

I don't know where to put that.

Also--how do I add tabs across the top (the navigation bar). I thought maybe it would be easier if I just added a navigation tab called "In the News" and put the links under it? What do you think? But I need detailed instructions.

  6. Hi there,

The instructions here will walk you through the steps of adding a custom menu widget:

Before you can really use the widget, you'll first need to create a custom menu:

Once you've created and saved a custom menu, you can return to the Widgets page, and assign that custom menu to your custom menu widget.
