How do I dismantle old website after moving domain to wordpress?

Planning to move domain name to wordpress blog and am not sure what I should do about the old website. The website is for a homeowners association and the former administrator knew how to write code (I don’t even know what that means) and I’ve put up a simple easy to use and view site here at wordpress. It seems to me that I’d need to do something to deactivate the other website…..but I have no idea what that would be.

The blog I need help with is

If you don’t update the old website, the new one will probably outrank it pretty quick. If there’s a way to set it to Private, that works to get it off search engines fairly quickly. If not, then just stop paying for the hosting and eventually the host will take it offline; be sure to save everything you want from there first.

When the name servers for your domain are pointed to WordPress.COM (you are keeping the custom domain name – right??) – the old site will disappear at once unless it is a static IP address then someone would need to have the static address to get there

    The above requires domain mapping

Thanks raincoaster and auxclass! Yes, I’ve already saved everything from the old site and am keeping the custom domain name and having it moved to WordPress. I don’t think it’s a static IP address, so I’ll check that.
    Thanks again.
