Can you tell us the URL of the blog with 19 documented Ham comments, but only 3 comments total?

IMHO there’s nothing left to comment on. Indeed auxclass said it all when her replied to you.

WordPress.COM – Akismet is installed and can’t be disabled

WordPress.ORG installs – your choice on Akismet

Thank you for all your replies. I think it is weird that WordPress.com seems to give you the option of signing up for Akismet when it is automatically equipped with it, but I will continue my research and for now post a message on my blog to my readers to contact me directly if they don’t see their comments on my site so that I can put them in manually for them. This can be a temporary fix to the problem until I figure out the best route to take. Once again thank you for your time.

WordPress.COM gives you the option of signing up for Akismet because you need an account activation code to activate Akismet on a WordPress.ORG install. You can get the account activation code here.

Just a side not on the Spam – there was a person a while back here that was insisting that Akismet was spamming all their comments to their blog and they kept needing to fish them out of the spam trap – a couple of the people here looked at the site and every comment they had “saved” from the spam filter was in fact spam – your site might be different but that has been the experience of several others in the past.

@auxclass, thanks for bringing that up. I wondered about that too.

To add to what auxclass mentioned (second paragraph): In my blog Akismet has caught more than 26.000 comments so far; of all those, only 4 or 5 weren’t actually spam.

    To: auxclass, thesacredpath, panaghiotisadam,

Oh, how I wish that was my case. But like I said in my previous response: I will continue my research and for now post a message on my blog to my readers to contact me directly if they don’t see their comments on my site so that I can put them in manually for them. This can be a temporary fix to the problem until I figure out the best route to take. Once again thank you for your time.

If you Un-Spam a person Akismet should learn that they are OK – sort of a pain I know, but in Akismets defense they look at something like 200,000++ comments an hour so it will see someone that is running all over the internet dropping comments and links.

Good luck – since I moved my site less than two years ago Akismet has sapped 28,700++ Spam.

Is it possible to view the comments in spam? I read in another thread (now closed) about Akismet saving the spam comment for 15 days before deleting. I assume it is saved in the Spam folder within Comments, but that doesn’t seem to be the case for me.

E.g. Yesterday my Dashboard said: “Akismet has protected your site from 11 spam comments already.” Today, it says: “Akismet has protected your site from 12 spam comments already.”

But I haven’t seen anything in my spam queue / Spam folder in the past week. I check the Dashboard at least three times a day.

    Is this a bug?

When Akismet is absolutely sure that a comment is spam (from know spammers) it will not show those to you since there is absolutely no doubt. It also will not show duplicates so if one spammer leaves 6 spam comments it will only show you one of those.
