How do I get "HTTPS" to show in my new domain name?
I want to use HTTPS with my new domain name that I got from WordPress. The old one said HTTPS – and since I write about cybersecurity it is important to me that my site show that I’m using a secure protocol – even if it is (for all intents and purposes) not really ‘useful’ since I’m not collecting any private info or selling anything. How can I make this happen – or can’t I? I looked for an answer but could not find anything. I know I can access my blog myself as admin using HTTPS – I’m NOT talking about that. I want READERS to see the URL as HTTPS. How exactly can this be done?
The blog I need help with is a-little-bit-safer.com.
Hi there – We don’t currently offer SSL for mapped domains, nor do we offer end users the option to view sites over SSL. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
Just let me know if you have any other questions.
I think that had I known this – and had the information been clearly and obviously available up front, I might not have chosen to spend the money on the domain name. That really bothers me. Yes, I know I can go back to using WordPress as the primary domain – but I already spent the money on the new domain. Where exactly do you explain this to people buying the domains that you so freely advertise… ?? Because I looked and I don’t see a word about it. If it’s there, it’s buried deeply enough that it’s not useful.
I’m sorry for the confusion. An SSL connection is not a feature that our users normally require, since we don’t support e-commerce or other features where a secure connection is required. Since it’s not a usual need with WordPress.com sites, we don’t highlight as a feature that’s not available.

Even if you do revert back to the WordPress.com domain, we still don’t offer the ability to force end users to view sites over SSL, as I mentioned earlier. Only the administration area can be set to require SSL. You can certainly view the front end by adding an “s” to http and ask your users to do the same, but you can’t force it.
I will send you an email now with some options regarding your domain.
