    Please help. I just spent an hour with tech support from my internet provider who says these ads are on my blog through WP. WordPress insists they are not putting them on. My blog is stuck in the middle. I don’t know where else to turn. and don’t have $299 to Go Pro :(

    To off-set the costs of providing free hosting to millions of bloggers, WordPress.com has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. Many bloggers do not know this because despite the fact they ticked the box required to get a free blog, they did not read the ToS. Many also do not read the advertising entry in the support documents after registering their username and blog(s). Also note that as the ads do not display to us when we are logged in, and as many use browsers with ad blockers when logged out, they may not realize they are there at all.

    10. Advertisements. Automattic reserves the right to display advertisements on your blog unless you have purchased an Ad-free Upgrade or a VIP Services account. http://en.wordpress.com/tos/

    If the ads you see are found at the end of blog posts then provided you see this small About These Ads link what you are seeing is WordPress.com generated advertising.

    WordPress.com does not use text enhance or text link ads or pop-up ads or links in comments. If you are seeing those then that’s a browser-ad-on issue, or in some cases, it’s embedded into free games downloaded from the internet. See here: Bloggers: Beware of Adware.

    If what you are seeing whenever you save or update a post or page is an automatically added code/script block at the end of posts and pages that you can’t delete then see here: Malware Targets Macs and Windows PCs

    If you feel an ad is inappropriate please take a screenshot of it, upload it via Media -> Add New to your Media Library. Then return to this thread to post the file name to let Staff them know it’s there for them to view.

    Lastly, note to eliminate all advertising on our free hosted WordPress.com blogs we can purchase an annually renewable No-Ads upgrade.

    The No Ads Upgrade referenced by @TT above is $ 30.– / year – you don’t need the $ 299.– anything to remove ads

    Should only take a few minutes – look in

    Dashboard >> Store >> My Upgrades >> you should see the upgrades

    There is more information in the thread below on how to identify WordPress.COM ads and a browser probem.

    You might have a bad browser add in for your browser or something in the browser that is adding the ads – this thread explains how to tell the difference in the types of ads and how to clean up your browser if there is a browser problem

    it’s been overnight. The no ads upgrade is listed as Active under my upgrades, however big Dropdown coupon ads are still showing on my page. Shouldn’t this have disappeared by now?
    Thanks for your help with this issue

    I strongly suspect you may have a browser add-on issue. I’ve tagged this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

    @adoptedmom

    I checked your site and I can confirm that ads from WordPress.com are not being displayed on your site.

    The “Dropdown coupon” ads are not placed on your site by WordPress.com. They are being placed there by software on your own computer. Do you see any text near the ad that says “Ads not by this site”? These ads are sometimes caused by malware or a virus, but more often it is due to a browser extension or toolbar that you may have installed in your browser.

    These sites have further explanation and suggestions for eliminating the ads:
