How do I install plugins?

  1. Hi. How can I install plugins with I don't see the option for Plugins in the left hand side.

    Thanks for any pointers.

  2. Plugins cannot be used at wordpress.COM for security reasons. Plugins are for self-hosted wordpress sites using the software from wordpress.ORG.

The difference between and (self-hosted) sites.

  3. Just to clarify, I am checking if the paid version ("Pro") allows me plugins as it allows me proper theming. If it doesn't, then it's hardly very "Pro" is it. Anyway, hope someone can share a positive answer.

  4. Thanks thesacredpath. Got my answer. The "VIP program" gives what really should be basic pro features, at a fascinating $3,750 / month. Lovely. I'm sure there are suckers in the world. For that price you could setup an entire server farm of topline dedicated hosting in like 50 countries. Whatever...clearly not a solution for any serious user beyond simpletons requiring a basic blog.

  5. No it does not. The pro version gives you your own domain name (along with some other upgrades) but the same restrictions and rules, as far as advertising, plugins, etc., still apply.

To use plugins you would have to self-host your own wordpress installation on a third-party hosting service such as godaddy, bluehost, etc., using the software from wordpress.ORG. Figure an average cost per month, all things considered, of $10 to $25.

If you tell us what you are wanting to do, there may be some work arounds that have been found.

  6. Hello thesacredpath,
i would like to know if there is a workaround for social like buttons in posts and the facebook plug in considering the version ? Or is this only possible in the selfhosted versions ?
    Thank you !

  7. Go to settings > sharing and that is built in here at See this support page on how to set it all up.

  8. You can also set things up so that your posts are automatically posted to your tot FB if you wish.

  9. Thanks a lot, thesacredpath !

I will try and inform you about the results.

  10. You are welcome.

  11. Allright, found it and made it !
Thanks again for the support and the additional information, thesacredpath !

  12. OK, so I am on a blog, and understand i can't install plugins based on this thread, thank you. Barring a plugin, is there a way to create/add an xml sitemap to my blog for better search engine visibility? I have the file created, just don't know how to best add it. Thank you.

  13. You automatically have a sitemap here, so you do not have to worry about that. The moment you created your blog here, the sitemap was created for you and is kept up to date in real time. WordPress also makes "firehose" push notifications available to all the search engines if they wish to use it, and some of the larger ones do.

Your sitemap for the site linked to your username would be:

  14. @billhewson already provides site maps to search engines for us - we do nothing.
On the bottom of your Admin page you will find a link to the Learn blogging Tutorial prepared by Staff.
The support documentation is all found at the Support link and the searcbox works very well which is also on the bottom of your Admin page.

  15. @marcelparviz, you are welcome.

  16. @thesacredpath
    good morning :)

  17. thanks guys, very helpful, and much appreciated!

  18. You're welcome.

  19. @timethief, good morning to you too!

  20. thesacredpath - I've followed all the instructions on your link to be able to publicize on facebook and linked in. My posts show up in linked in, but not on facebook. What am I missing?

I do type my posts in a third party software (MS Word Blog Template) load them to WordPress as a draft, then publish them according to a schedule. Could that be why they never post to facebook?

  21. Are you trying to publicize to a personal profile, a Page, or a Group? Publicize doesn't work with Groups and we generally recommend RSS Graffiti or Networked Blogs.

Using Word shouldn't interfere, but instead of Word, use Windows Live Writer, which works much better. It looks and feels like Word, but you can categorize and tag and upload images etc. And it's free.

  22. Raincoaster - to a personal profile. It used to work at one point, then timeline happened, then I was saw something from Facebook that it would no longer publish notes from wordpress, but would instead publish a link to the blog post. that's not working either.

    Any of that sound familiar?

  23. I don't use Publicize or any robo-posting apps, because FB automatically downgrades them in others' news feeds. To increase the likelihood that someone other than you will read your posts, manually add the links. But you can also use RSS Graffiti which TT uses, or Networked Blogs, which I used to use. They both work for pages, groups, or profiles.

  24. Networked Blogs
    RSS Grafitti
RSS Graffiti periodically checks the RSS/Atom feeds that you specify and posts any new entries it finds to the Facebook Walls that you specify. You can get any feed written on any wall (Facebook Profiles, Fan Pages, Groups, Events and Application Profile Pages). In fact, multiple feeds to multiple walls. You choose the combination.

  25. Raincoaster and Timethief - thank you for your answers but I'm confused by both of your posts.

All I want is to write a blog post on WordPress, and have it show up on my Facebook profile. I thought this was a simple feature of WordPress, called publicize, where a post will show on twitter, linked in, and/or Facebook. Currently, even clicking "publicize" on my post draft, it does not show up in Facebook. It does show up on LinkedIn.

Do either of you write posts that then show up on your Facebook profile?

  26. Yes. I manually post them, and TT uses RSS Graffiti instead of the Publicize option.

If you want to use Publicize, and it used to work and is not working now, what you'll have to do is disconnect your FB on your Publicize settings, flush the FB cache, and then re-connect it.
