How do I remove the header and comments from a static front page?

I have the Elegant Grunge theme and am an admitted technophobe. I created a static front page to welcome people to my blog and other pages but cannot figure out how to remove the header and the comment section from it. I just want the image on that page with nothing else. I’d very much appreciate help from you experienced wordpress users!

The blog I need help with is

To remove the comment section, edit the page, uncheck “Allow comments” and “Allow trackbacks and pingbacks” in the Discussion module, click Update. If you’re not seeing the Discussion module while on the page editor screen, click Screen Options (top right) to activate it.

The header image area is common to all static and dynamic pages of your blog: in many themes (including the one you’re using) you can remove it altogether, but you cannot remove it selectively.
