How do I stop people from stealing my video?

    I know that if I host a video on Youtube or other video site and embed the code in my blog, anyone else can do the same to feature my video in their blog.

    So, I used the WordPress video player, which I assumed was safer… at least I didn’t see an easy way someone could just use an embed code.

    But another webmaster told me he quite easily was able to figure it out and was going to use the code to display my video (he agreed not to when I asked him).

    Is there a way to embed video in a WordPress blog that cannot simply be referenced by another site? I know if someone really wants it, they can find a way to rip the video (like with a screen capture utility), I just want to make it as hard for people as possible.

    Ok I’m stupid… I see all you have to do is click “menu” on the video player and it provides you with a link to embed it anywhere you like.

    Is there a way to PREVENT this? It would be great if the WordPress player gave you an option NOT to generate embed codes!!

    Any ideas?

    There are grabbers that can pretty much grab any video they want out there. If they want it that bad, they’ll find a way I guess. Unless you tell them to link back to you unless it’s personal videos. Then maybe make your blog private or password protect each post. If you can find the technology, there is a way to place your blog’s name and url directly on the video when viewing.

    If you use YouTube, you can set it so the video is NOT embeddable, but of course that means not even on your own blog. Other video sites have something similar…but because WP.com is a blogging platform first, foremost, and only, I would expect their videos to ONLY allow embedding in a blog. In other words, if it wasn’t embeddable, they wouldn’t bother doing it.

    Well I can tell you that Firefox users can use downloadhelper and get all the vids

    r1b2r3, do you know hot to download flash videos? Those are the only ones I can’t.
