How do we archive?
I have got to know how to archive my posts on both blogs. How do we get them into the archives and then make them vanish off the main page? It is driving me nuts. I am certain it is really simple, but it is the simple things that really seem to get me. Please help. Thank you.
The blog I need help with is drywallofficial.wordpress.com.
Archiving is automatic. Each time you create a post, it also shows up in the current month’s archive. Archives on blogs aren’t like normal archives where you put something in it and it disappears from the main section.
You can go to settings > reading and reduce the number of posts that show on your main page, but from the looks of things your main page doesn’t have too many on it to begin with.
Actually the archives on blogs can be thought of more like sorting posts by month and year. They aren’t an archive the the true sense.
Thank You. I really appreciate your input on this. It is just one of those nagging little things.
Set your blog to display only 2 or 3 posts on the main page and that way the older posts will be on the subsequent pages. That is about all I have to offer in the way of a real solution.
The other possibility is to set older posts to “private” but that will mean only you will be able to see them. It will also mean that for each post you set to private that is in the search engines, those posts will return 404 not found errors, and too many of those and the search engines will quite indexing your blog.
The second, in my opinion, is not such a good idea for the reasons stated, among others.
